Title: Joe Biden crafted racist bill

I never knew it was Joe Biden that was responsible for that!

The first federal prisoner to die of coronavirus was serving a harsh mandatory sentence for crack cocaine.

The length of his sentence could be traced in part to the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, crafted by then-Sen. Joe Biden, which vastly increased mandatory minimum sentences for crack cocaine versus powder cocaine. This provision was later criticized for disproportionately punishing African-Americans. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions,” Biden later said.

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions,"  hmmmmm, like the numerous violations of our constitutional rights.

One of the West Wing episodes tried to make the case that the crack cocaine sentences were racist because blacks tended to use crack more than whites.  Interestingly, the episode writers never acknowledged the role democrats had in getting those laws passed.

Well, "interestingly" not so much as it wasn't surprising.

Very pertinent observation right now.
