Spin Zone / Nondiscrimination "Preeminent" Over First Amendment
« on: April 20, 2016, 04:53:33 AM »
Stunning. you need to read the entire article, but note this:

"The last bullet is the final twist of the knife. Since our nation’s founding, religious freedom has been deemed so vital to the health of our democracy that lawmakers and judges have often attempted to make sure that state actions are “narrowly tailored” when those actions conflict with religious freedom. Now the Left wants liberty to be narrowly tailored when it conflicts with the new nondiscrimination regime."

Spin Zone / An Open Letter to Donald Trump
« on: April 18, 2016, 08:41:17 AM »
A great article about Trump accusing delegates of being "bought":

http://soshable.com/mr-trump-in-accusing-patriotic-delegates-of-being-bought-youve-gone-too-far/

Mr. Trump:

How dare you assign your morale degradation and penchant for buying and selling people to the men and women who are trying to save the nation from the destruction you are attempting to bring on us. Your willingness to “play the system” with bankruptcies and political corruption have hurt so many people throughout your life. Accountability is not your thing, but please refrain from narcissistic projection of your weaknesses onto people who do not deserve it.

Instead of bashing the delegates, you should be applauding their commitment. As a billionaire who was born into a real estate empire, you can never appreciate the effort it takes to save up money in order to pay to go to Cleveland. Many receive limited or no compensation and are willing to make personal sacrifices because the Republic is that important to them.

Instead of accusing them, you should be talking to them, hearing what they want, and telling them what you will do. Not all of them have read your policies on your Twitter feed. In fact, you would do well to learn from many of them who know much more about fixing this country than you do.

Instead of belittling them, you should be heralding their service to this country. Many of them served in the Vietnam War that you were unfit to serve in. Many of them fought in the Middle East wars that you’ve repeatedly bashed. Instead of telling the world how corrupt they are for picking a candidate other than you, show them whatever positive character traits you can muster to convince them that you’re good for America.

Many people can give a speech. Many people can deliver a sales pitch. You are very good at both, but those abilities alone will not be enough to serve this country if you’re elected President. Demonstrate the ability to unify without whining. Prove to us that you’re capable of being a statesman, not just a salesman.

It’s important for you to understand something about the Republican party. There is corruption. There are those who say one thing to get elected only to fail to fulfill their promises. That fact has made a majority in the party upset. You are taking advantage of this need for us to fight against the Establishment, but by going after the grassroots rather than attacking the root of the problem, you are actually helping the Establishment. Instead of attacking delegates, you should be attacking Mitch McConnell, one of the Establishment types that you have helped to keep in power. You should be helping Senators Lee and Sessions (who endorsed you) pass legislation and move up in party leadership.

Chances are slim that you will read this and they’re even slimmer that you would learn anything from it, but if there is one takeaway that you must understand, it’s this: The President of the United States is a servant. We’ve seen Presidents falling away from the understanding that the President makes decisions on our behalf, but to do so properly you must be willing to humble yourself to the role of one who serves us. We do not serve you.

I will fight your nomination until the choice is finalized. Your antics have demonstrated a complete lack of the moral character and leadership that I feel the office requires. Regardless of the outcome of the nomination process and the election, it is my sincere hope that you will not use the goodwill you’ve accumulated with your supporters to further damage the Republican party and the United States of America. You have a responsibility to the nation that enabled your rise to prominence. Do not disregard that responsibility by acting as you have for your entire public life as a man who is most interested in gaining favor and approval from others.

Respectfully,

JD Rucker

Spin Zone / School District Wants to Stop "Jesus Lunches"
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:38:30 AM »
A Middleton, WI (adjacent to the People's Republic of Madison) school district is trying to halt a gathering of parents and students during the lunch hour from meeting in a public park adjacent to the school to discuss their faith.

What started as a small gathering of a dozen people has expanded into several hundred who wish to meet periodically, not on school grounds, but in a public park.  One of the school's lame arguments?  They can't control the quality of food being served by the parents. Oh, and this is an "open campus," where kids can get in their car and go anywhere for lunch.

The effort to make the belief in State superior to the belief in one's faith knows no bounds.

Spin Zone / Conservatives Against Trump

Erick Erickson pretty much nails it:

"Many who support Trump do so out of deep frustration with the direction of our country and a yearning to see the renewed flourishing of the American experiment. We understand, share, and respect that frustration. At the same time, along with the almost two-thirds of Republican primary voters have chosen candidates other than Trump, we have discerned him to be anything but a conservative and untethered to any principle deeper than his own self-interest. Rather than solving problems, Trump would greatly deepen and exacerbate them by undermining our constitutional system and heightening our country’s already significant social, economic and political challenges."

Spin Zone / Why Did Trump Run as a Republican?
« on: April 13, 2016, 09:45:26 AM »
This is a serious question. Why did someone who has expressed extreme hate for the GOP and the RNC, and who hasn't read the rules and refuses to acknowledge the rules, and wants the rules changed such that a plurality of delegates should automatically get the nomination, want to be this party's nominee?

Why does Trump want the GOP nomination, when he appears to be at odds with much of its platform, including the support for the Fifth Amendment and the platforms rejection of Kelo v. New London (pg. 13 of the Republican Platform 2012)?

Why didn't he just start his own party?  He could certainly afforded to do so. He could have set up a primary system where every  state has a Trump Party primary vote (no caucuses or conventions), and the plurality vote getter gets the nomination. It would be an excellent party, a beautify party, and the Trump Party voters would be fabulous people.

I despise the Republican establishment (the elected career politicians), but not the party of Lincoln.  That's why I engaged in significant debate over on POA that the Tea Party wanted to change the GOP from the inside, and not start a new party. However, I don't think Trump even knows the GOP was the party of Lincoln, or that it was started in 1854 in nearby Ripon, Wisconsin.

So why did Trump run as a Republican?

Pilot Zone / MOAs, Restricted, and Warning airspace
« on: April 13, 2016, 08:44:32 AM »
To make it through the day, especially during tax season, I often pull up AirNav, pick an airport, and then pull up the sectional map for that area. I park that on one of my 3 screens so I have something cool to look at.

Yesterday I pulled up KLAS, and was struck by the volume of MOAs and especially restricted airspace. How in the hell do you guys fly around there?  Do you see such air space expanding over the years?  What a pain in the ass.

The massive space north of LAS for Nellis is interesting. The MOAs seem to generally go from 100' AGL to 18,000' MSL, SR to SS Mon-Sat. Geeze, that's quite a restriction to GA flight!  (Yes, I know it's not always active, you can fly through an MOA, etc.).

Has anyone heard about what happens if someone accidentally wandered over to, say, Groom Lake?

Spin Zone / Wisconsin Gave GOP Escape Route from Trump
« on: April 07, 2016, 10:28:23 AM »
"In short, if the Republicans select Trump, they would be committing suicide three different ways. They would abandon the nation by nominating an unqualified candidate, they would jeopardize principle and they would risk bringing down the entire ticket.

"But some Republicans leaders and elected officials cling to the fantasy that uniting around Trump — if he is just short of the nomination — is the only way to save the party from splitting apart. That is the political equivalent of staying in an abusive marriage for the sake of the children.

"Wisconsin voters have given mainstream Republicans a chance to wiggle out of their fatal embrace of Trump. It would be tragedy for both the GOP and the nation if they lack the courage to take it."

Spin Zone / Election Update from Wisconsin
« on: March 29, 2016, 08:18:38 PM »
Yesterday morning Trump had two pretty rough radio interviews from two different talk radio hosts:  Charlie Sykes from WTMJ and Vicki McKenna from WISN, both Milwaukee stations.  Trump hung up on Vicki.

My wife went to a Cruz-Fiorina rally this morning in Brookfield, and found it uplifting and hopeful for the future.

Scott Walker endorsed Ted Cruz today.  Of course, that caused the petulant manchild Trump to deride Walker and Wisconsin during his rally in Janesville.  I guess that's one way to get Wisconsin GOP voters.  🙄
