Seized a piston and as it cooled and contracted it was able to rotate again?

Pitts with a wooden prop, not enough inertia to keep spinning on the upline, engine stopped (it happens, misadjusted idle stop coupled with little to no airflow to spin the prop) - he gave up tons of altitude and tried for a windmill airstart multiple times rather than just using the starter, it was actually a massive failure of airmanship IMO if this is the event I remember.
