Title: Cessna TTx
Post by: acrogimp on May 22, 2017, 05:30:36 PM
Curious if any of our august fellow aviators have any time with the Cessna TTx or its' predecessor Columbia/Corvallis 400?

I have recently become aware of the apparent level of capability these little speedsters have (and without training wheels/chute) but due to the sales success of the Cirrus it seems a bit tough to find good pilot reports/stories for the Cessna.

Was playing around with the performance specs and FltPlan.com and it looks like it could make KSEE-KAAO in Wichita non-stop under decent conditions

Not in position to go get one at this time but it never hurts to have goals (even the Yak was but a dream at one point).

Thanks

Funny, I had the same sudden interest. There's a couple of threads running in POA on this very topic:

No need to worry on the PoA threads, they'll deteriorate into a "you should get a Bonanza" tirade.

Nah, they got Cirrus fever, bad.

Allow me to start that here, only I'm going to suggest he get a Mooney instead. Faster and no silly gear hanging down. :D

The Mooney jokes aside, the TTx is probably a very comfortable ride and is definitely fast. I don't know much about them so I'm not familiar with any maintenance issues specific to them, but being that it's a Cessna I doubt parts will be hard to get.

Wow, I haven't been to POA since I left, and that ridiculousness just reinforces my decision to not go there, I get the whole Cirrus fan-boy thing although I am not and could never be one (I believe the Cirrus actually IS all of the awful things that were SAID about the Bo' and the Malibu) but those threads were insufferable (and reinforces my disdain for the average Cirrus fan-boy and POA), my God, worse than Apple people...  ;^)

The new Acclaim Ultra is a VERY serious piece of equipment, really impressive.  I've always like the Mooney design philosophy, an updated 231 would be a nice stopgap, as would a nice turbo-normalized Bonanza but there is something about the styling, interiors, avioncis, FIKI, A/C, etc., about the TTx that is really attractive to me as a total package.

I guess I am a bit of a traditionalist also.  I have never flown a Cirrus, or a Columbia/Corvalis/Cessna TT.  The Cessna looks amazing however, and I applaud new designs from these companies.  I do think Cirrus, and Diamond have done a lot to offer something new to the prospective, high end buyer.  However, I find myself not thrilled with either choice.  Maybe I should fly them.  I have flown Mooneys, and Bonanzas, and do like both a lot.

So for shits and giggles I downloaded the Carenado Cessna 400TT for FSX and have been 'flying' trips in the simulator that I would be interested in making, using real world weather conditions for winds and such (i.e., Vegas, PHX, Mammoth) and I may just have to find a way to get one of these things in real life.

I am scheduled to go to the SoCal Aviation Expo at KCRQ in late June to really look at the TTx.

Still not in a position to buy one but I have found that making a desire 'real' is aided greatly by actually experiencing what I want (for example, I bought the Yak less than 9 months after driving up to the All Red Star formation clinic in Porterville a couple years ago and getting my first real taste of Yak's and formation flying).

I have a couple business concepts and a book proposal that have been lagging in development and suddenly I find I have the time and energy to work on them again....go figure - toy goals for the win!
