Trump's inauguration speech was chock full of them, loved it.

Enjoyed the speech, especially the focus on we the people.

Cue radical alt-Left-government-media-complex and SJW snowflake heads exploding in 3...2...1

Spin Zone / Cruz and DeSantis introduce Congressional Term Limit Proposal
« on: January 04, 2017, 10:28:37 AM »
https://www.cruz.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=2940

2 terms for Senators, 3 terms for Congresscritters.

I like it.

This is a part of draining the swamp and is long, long overdue - the only drawback is that it actually potentially increases the power and influence of the policy wonks and apparatchiks operating behind the scenes and in the various Federal buildings - they need term limits too IMO.

Spin Zone / The unbearable smugness of the press
« on: November 10, 2016, 07:43:32 AM »
Excellent piece from within the belly of the beast that is the polit-media complex.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/commentary-the-unbearable-smugness-of-the-press-presidential-election-2016/

Personally, I don't want the press to get any better, I don't want the occupy and black-lies-matter thugs to stop wrecking things, since this misbehavior and holier-than-thou attitude is IMO what is driving, at least in part, a new American awakening for what has been a truly silent majority.

Spin Zone / A thought for the other side...
« on: November 09, 2016, 10:30:11 AM »
Posted this to my FB since I have friends and family who are reeling today...

I want to take a moment and share a thought with and for my friends and family who wake up today in a world that seems upside down and at odds with their beliefs, hopes and aspirations - this too shall pass. I fully expected to wake up exactly where you are, with real fear in my heart for the future of our nation and her people - I have been living this, each and every day, for more than a decade. My beliefs, values and philosophy have been under assault for roughly 12 years - simply because of the party or candidates I support I have, directly and indirectly, been called names I would have never expected, I have been accused of things that are unspeakable, and this is where we the people have to bridge the gap and reject the rhetoric of divisiveness.

I strongly believe that it is not only possible to disagree on policy and still be friends, it is needed. Rejection of a policy position is not rejection of the person who holds it. Disagreement about a belief is not a value judgment of the person who believes it. We must be able on all sides to separate this in order to escape the destructive effects of identity politics and be able to see the good in all Americans regardless of their positions.

I believe that the most important word in the name of our country is united. We are united as a people not because we hold the same exact beliefs or values and march in lock step, but because we are united in a system that provides the most opportunity ever provided, in a system that, when it is functioning, allows for disagreement and course corrections by recognizing the strength that flows from all of us, not any singular group.

I know from personal experience that today is painful but I hope that those who are wondering what this all means can reject the manufactured caricatures and seek to find common ground, since there is far more where we agree then we are being told by a partisan media.

Donald J. Trump was never going to be a 'good' candidate in any traditional mold, and what he has done, and his primary and lasting achievement IMO, regardless of what happens now, is that he has put the flame torch to the keep of the political-media establishment, and has if not permanently at least temporarily put the entire power structure on its' heels and I believe, as I have maintained throughout this election, that THAT is what is most desperately needed for all Americans.

Spin Zone / Response to Paul Ryan Fundraiser
« on: October 14, 2016, 05:33:48 PM »
Even though I am no longer a registered Republican and no longer provide financial or material support to the GOP, I got a desperate request for money today via e-mail from Speaker Ryan.  I won't bore you with the letter itself, but I will share my brief retort.

"How dare you beg for my money after the repeated failures to actually stand up and fight for real Conservative values and after all bit abandoning our candidate for President.

We the people are more than your damned ATM and we are tired of being promised one thing only to continue to be ignored or insulted once you have what you wanted.

If you lose the House or Senate next month it will not be because of Trump winning or losing, it will not be because of anything he says or does not say - it will be because of what YOU have done, and failed to do, and not for days, or weeks or months, but for years now - end of line.

Oh, and don't beg me for money when you have no intention of actually governing in accordance with the Conservative values you say you share with me, fool me once shame on me....

How dare you.

Pilot Zone / Importance of thorough preflight and annual inspection
« on: October 03, 2016, 08:28:21 AM »
So, the Yak is down for its' conditional and as pat of the inspection we pulled an inspection cover to evaluate some play that Gennady Elfimov noticed in the left aileron when we did the pre-clinic inspection for the advanced spins and acro clinic I took in August.  We went on to fly 12 very hard hours of spins and acro, then the plane flew a further 10-12 very hard hours during a twice-annual basic fighter maneuvers training clinic.

Fast forward to yesterday and we find the 'play' that was suspected to be some bearing wear was instead a failing repair from before the plane came to the US.

At some point, the outer aileron bracket was replaced, and the repair using pulled rivets was failing.  4 of about 14 rivets had failed completely, with half the rest 'working' as in already loose.

The Yak ailerons are extremely powerful and as a result can generate very powerful forces and loads, this was, no bullshit, an accident waiting to happen.

Since we were in that area last year for the Conditional and the installation of the LED lights and none of this was evident at the time, this repair was basically unzipping at a fairly rapid pace most likely accelerated by the last 20-30 hrs of flying which are the hardest the plane has seen since I bought it a year and a half ago.

Result will be cutting out part of the aileron cove for access, shooting proper rivets, and then installing a new, removable, cove closeout with thankfully minimal paint work.  This was already an expensive conditional with some planned prop and other maintenance, but given my intention to fly more acro this year and next in prep for joining the airshow circuit eventually, this was a good if not unexpected catch.

Pay attention during those preflights and annual inspections.

Pilot Zone / Reno Air Races
« on: September 16, 2016, 09:28:51 AM »
So the Reno Air Races are on this week, 2nd year now where RARA is not providing any streaming which sucks mighty for those of us who can't make it.

Sparse Unlimited participation this year, but huge turnout in Sport (41 pilots), Formula 1 and Biplane.

Highlight so far, to me, is Jeff LaVelle returned in his monster Glasair III and turned in a 404mph qualifying run for Sport, making him faster than all but the 4 fastest planes in Unlimited this year, and faster than half of the Jet class - a monumental achievement.

I have several friends flying Formula 1, Sport and Biplane class this year, and another friend is trying to goad me into picking up Formula 1 racing.....

www.reports.airrace.org for standings and results.

Spin Zone / Dem disarry going into Convention
« on: July 24, 2016, 09:07:04 PM »
Have to admit to more than a little schadenfreude to see the Guccifer 2.0 Dem e-mail leak and fallout of the past 24 hours.

The Dems who say Hillary's e-mail scandal is meaningless have pushed Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz out as head of DNC on the eve of the convention for, get this, an e-mail scandal (and for having 1/3 fewer e-mails hacked than Hillary admits to deleting) - and then Hillary in a display of total tone deafness appoints her to a campaign position.

The Dems who rail against Trump's wall to keep illegal immigrants out, put up a fence around their convention to keep the people of the US out.

The Dems who accuse those who would require ID to vote of being racists, require ID to gain access to their fenced in little enclave.

The irony is delicious, I am beginning to sense a bloodbath is coming.

Spin Zone / Looks like Mike Pence is Trump's VP Pick
« on: July 14, 2016, 10:51:19 AM »
Not official until tomorrow but looks like Trump and his team have settled on social conservative Mike Pence (Gov, IN-R) as their VP pick.

Better choice than Christie or a few others, not as 'diverse' as I had suspected, and comes with pros and cos as a well-known social conservative and outward Christian.

Gonna be interesting to see how this plays out over the weekend and into the convention.

Spin Zone / Trump-Clinton Already Even in Swing States
« on: May 10, 2016, 08:07:26 AM »
So as a counter to the 'can't win' chorus, Trump and Clinton are now dead even (+/- 1) in OH, FL and PA, according to Qunnipiac, six months out from the general, and before the first volley from Team Trump.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/05/trump-clinton-florida-ohio-pennsylvania-222994

Some interesting tidbits in the underlying data that I think benefit Trump (my opinion) - 1 month ago it was Clinton +6 to +11.

Spin Zone / Amb. John Bolton on Trump

http://conservativetribune.com/bush-ambassador-trump-bombshell/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=TheFederalistPapers&utm_content=2016-05-09&utm_campaign=manualpost

Quote
John Bolton was one of George W. Bush’s top officials and a prominent Donald Trump holdout. However, in an interview with Radio America, the former U.N. ambassador says he’s backing Trump over Hillary Clinton in November because “if the country’s not safe, everything else is secondary.”

I believe this is a binary choice,” Bolton said. “The next president will either be Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, unless Hillary gets indicted. Talk about a third-party candidate, I think, is badly misplaced. The idea of not voting at all is no better because, functionally, that’s a vote for Hillary. And it may have a really harmful effect on Senate and House races where Republicans are going to be fighting hard to maintain control.”

Emphasis mine.

Spin Zone / Camille Paglia on Trump and Hillary
« on: May 05, 2016, 04:55:25 PM »
Very, very interesting read from one of my favorite classical big "L" liberals Camille Paglia on the most recent turn of events.

Quote
Trump has knocked the stilts out from the GOP establishment and crushed the pretensions of a battalion of political commentators on both the Left and Right. Portraying him as a vile racist, illiterate boob, or the end of civilization as we know it hasn’t worked because his growing supporters are genuinely motivated by rational concerns about border security and bad trade deals. Whether Trump, with his erratic impulses and gratuitous crudities, can morph toward statesmanship remains to be seen.

Quote
He’s not a tribal Highlander, celebrated in Scotland’s long battle for independence from England, but a Viking, slashing, burning, and laughing at the carnage in his wake. (Think Kirk Douglas flashing his steely smile in the 1958 Hollywood epic, The Vikings.) Trump takes savage pleasure in winning for its own sake—an attribute that speaks directly to the moment, when a large part of the electorate feels that the U.S. has become timid and uncertain and made far too many humiliating concessions to authoritarian foreign powers like China, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Emphasis mine.
