I move that the moderators designated for the sole purpose of removing porn, spam and bots do so according to their discretion. If a post doesn’t neatly fall in one if those categories, I move that the moderators notify us so we can decide.

The only reason I was protesting the moderation was because of the childish back-and-forth between moderators and other members. Also, I guess I was a little miffed that the whole moderation thing was just sort of dumped on us with no notification or discussion.

That was years ago, and it was deleted by our founder. But it was really hard-core, disqusting porn. I wouldn't be upset by a nipple or two, although some of our members might. (And I'm not necessarily referring t the women). Now that we have moderators, we are discussing their roles in monitoring content.

But I do have a problem with the attitude and entitlement feelings of the moderators. We weren't asked if we wanted our unmoderated board to become moderated. It was just done to us. And when we voice our surprise and opinions, the moderators get defensive and hostile rather than try to discuss the situation.

None of us asked to be "moderators". I assume the reason was that the owner does not have the time to delete porn, spam, or bot post that appear. Again, only an assumption. Nobody ever gave any instructions out.
Again, what censorship has occurred with ANY content, like on POA? Where are these "attitude" posts you claim???

Rather than discussing it, we were TOLD this is the way it is. It turns out I have no problem "with the way it is". I just hate being told that and that I have no say so in it. All of you moderators would take the same position I have if you weren't the moderators.
I am about to leave for about a week so I won't be posting for a while. We are taking the Bonanza to West Virginia. I will probably be reading some posts, but I doubt I will be posting any thing until after we get back.

Since I'm being told to act like an adult, let me show some of you how adulting is done. Expect an invoice.
Good morning, PilotSpin members.
Today, you may notice that three of us suddenly have a "Moderator" tag below our names. We are fully cognizant of how and why this forum arose, and we know that many of you may recoil at the notion of moderation, given that this forum was founded on a lack of moderation.
So here is an explanation. The forum gets a significant stream of bots, spam, and porn. While this problem isn't typically visible to us because our founder has successfully removed these posts, he has lately had difficulty keeping up with workload. He has evaluated whether there is an appropriate setting or mod to the SMF forum software that would allow community-driven moderation, but unfortunately there is no appropriate software solution at the moment.
So, he's taken the three members with the highest post count and given them Moderator rights. This is how they will carry out the duty:
While the forum technically gives them full moderator rights, the founder has given them only one right - to moderate posts and threads that are clearly within three realms - spam, bots, and porn. These are defined as follows -
* Spam - [define]
* Bots - [define]
* Porn - [show examples]
Further, the Moderators will do the following -
* Err on the side of NO moderation where there is question whether the post falls within the above three realms
* Never moderate, in any way, a post that is not clearly within those three realms
* In the event that moderation is needed, will collapse content where possible, or delete content but not complete posts where collapsing is not possible, in the interests of transparency
* When a post or thread is moderated, a note will be left as to what was moderated and why, in the interests of transparency

This is not a paid gig, and is being implemented solely to assist forum cleanup. We're open to suggestions on other ways to combat what is a consistent issue on forums, especially as they gain age and visibility. Would appreciate opening this up to discussion below this post.

“Power”? Are you fucking kidding me? To my knowledge one single spam post was deleted in the month or so we were asked to be moderators. I said at the beginning I had no interest in deleting anything unless it’s clearly spam or bots.
