Title: Moderation
Post by: Becky (My pronouns are Assigned/By/God) on September 26, 2018, 09:00:28 PM
I move that the moderators designated for the sole purpose of removing porn, spam and bots do so according to their discretion.  If a post doesn’t neatly fall in one if those categories, I move that the moderators notify us so we can decide.

You have to trust someone sometime. This is that time.

Thank you, Becky.  So you mean we all act as adults.  What a novel concept!

Amend the motion on the table such that:  "... the moderators designated for the sole purpose of removing porn, and bots do so according to their discretion. All other posts to be left alone, unless a minimum of 3 adult members complain about the same post."

I agree Becky.

The only reason I was protesting the moderation was because of the childish back-and-forth between moderators and other members.  Also, I guess I was a little miffed that the whole moderation thing was just sort of dumped on us with no notification or discussion.

That was years ago, and it was deleted by our founder.  But it was really hard-core, disqusting porn.  I wouldn't be upset by a nipple or two, although some of our members might. (And I'm not necessarily referring t the women). Now that we have moderators, we are discussing their roles in monitoring content.

LOL!   ;D

You guys are over the top now.

Please tell us what got moderated, what did a moderator do here that is so egregious?  Are you upset that some nuisance bot post got removed?

 Seems to me you and Adam are more upset with who the moderators are rather than what they were asked to do.

I've said several times, I don't have a problem with the moderation. And I don't have a problem with who the moderators are.  In fact, I (used to?) like and respect all of the moderators.  But it seems "power" has gone to your heads.

But I do have a problem with the attitude and entitlement feelings of the moderators.  We weren't asked if we wanted our unmoderated board to become moderated.  It was just done to us.  And when we voice our surprise and opinions, the moderators get defensive and hostile rather than try to discuss the situation.

You moderators have the same attitude as the POA moderators.  You might not be as arbitrary in your post deletions, but you have the "This is the way it is and we are in charge" attitude.

What are you smoking?  Again, please show posts where ANY "moderator" displayed this "we are in charge" attitude.  Sometimes, I think some here are channeling Barbara Streisand, or Katie Couric.  Jesus.

None of us asked to be "moderators".  I assume the reason was that the owner does not have the time to delete porn, spam, or bot post that appear.  Again, only an assumption.  Nobody ever gave any instructions out.

Again, what censorship has occurred with ANY content, like on POA?  Where are these "attitude" posts you claim???

 This is just.....bizarre.

"attitude and entitlement feelings"........seriously?

 It's been discussed ad nauseam to the reason as to have any moderation, simply to remove bots and spammers.  To my knowledge that's all that has taken place.   I have yet to see any of the posters here threatened with moderation.

 You and Adam are more upset with the "who" rather than the "why".

I'm telling you snowflakes...

MIDOL is over the counter and will help you control those uncontrolled feelings of not being in control of others, faux moderator angst and the sense of overwhelming pre-moderator tension you seem to be unable to cope with.

It was a fucking spam post that was posted numerous times for no reason by a juvinile who really wants to post dick jokes.

Get over yourself.

The actual adults are all over you.

It has never been "discussed" ad nauseam or other wise.  Becky posted a good thread but everything else was here it is, take it or leave it.  Rather than discussing it, we were TOLD this is the way it is.  It turns out I have no problem "with the way it is".  I just hate being told that and that I have no say so in it.  All of you moderators would take the same position I have if you weren't the moderators.

I am about to leave for about a week so I won't be posting for a while.  We are taking the Bonanza to West Virginia.  I will probably be reading some posts, but I doubt I will be posting any thing until after we get back.

Maybe.

Uh, no.  I could care less one way or the other.

So you are demanding the owner of the site to consult with everyone first when he makes a decision on how it's to operate?   Really?

I've stayed out of this shit storm until now.  Is Shamalamadingdong a bot or real person?  It's been mentioned that folks feel it is Bryan from PoA, based on what evidence?  If it is a real person, should they not be allowed to post and if they do post, why should any of their posts be deleted?
Continue your shit storm.

Since I'm being told to act like an adult, let me show some of you how adulting is done. Expect an invoice.

Quote from: Said the Moderators, in an alternate history
Good morning, PilotSpin members.

Today, you may notice that three of us suddenly have a "Moderator" tag below our names. We are fully cognizant of how and why this forum arose, and we know that many of you may recoil at the notion of moderation, given that this forum was founded on a lack of moderation.

So here is an explanation. The forum gets a significant stream of bots, spam, and porn. While this problem isn't typically visible to us because our founder has successfully removed these posts, he has lately had difficulty keeping up with workload. He has evaluated whether there is an appropriate setting or mod to the SMF forum software that would allow community-driven moderation, but unfortunately there is no appropriate software solution at the moment.

So, he's taken the three members with the highest post count and given them Moderator rights. This is how they will carry out the duty:

While the forum technically gives them full moderator rights, the founder has given them only one right - to moderate posts and threads that are clearly within three realms - spam, bots, and porn. These are defined as follows -

 * Spam - [define]
 * Bots - [define]
 * Porn - [show examples]

Further, the Moderators will do the following -

 * Err on the side of NO moderation where there is question whether the post falls within the above three realms
 * Never moderate, in any way, a post that is not clearly within those three realms
 * In the event that moderation is needed, will collapse content where possible, or delete content but not complete posts where collapsing is not possible, in the interests of transparency
 * When a post or thread is moderated, a note will be left as to what was moderated and why, in the interests of transparency

--

This is not a paid gig, and is being implemented solely to assist forum cleanup. We're open to suggestions on other ways to combat what is a consistent issue on forums, especially as they gain age and visibility. Would appreciate opening this up to discussion below this post.

Also agree with this! How is spam defined could take into consideration how members voted in my poll just posted but the site owner (founder) has the final call.

Apparently the adults have hanged up on the snowflakes and are denying them their ‘right’ to have spam treated the same as member posts, because their whittle feelings might be hurted.

“Power”?  Are you fucking kidding me?  To my knowledge one single spam post was deleted in the month or so we were asked to be moderators. I said at the beginning I had no interest in deleting anything unless it’s clearly spam or bots.

I don’t give a shit what you think about our attitudes. Judge us on our actions, not on what you think could happen. Not a single SZ contributor’s post has been deleted except for the one from Bryan.

This hyperventilation is over the top ridiculous.

No. Lost me on the last line. It would show a supreme lack of moral courage to allow a vocal few to silence a dissenting idea.

I think you need to start your own board and then play with yourself all day, making up new rules and pretending to be king.

Bryan with a "Y: can post sham-a-lama-ding-dong can post on every page all day long and you can give your self royal names like Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
