Title: Mexico Presidential Elections
Post by: LevelWing on July 02, 2018, 10:52:30 AM
Mexico held their elections yesterday and the leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador won by a fairly large margin. Some of his campaign promises include:

Quote from: Yahoo! News
His platform includes promises to sell the presidential jet, slash his presidential salary in two, and turn the presidential palace into a cultural centre. He has campaigned with the pledge of doubling pensions for retirees, increasing scholarships for students, and boosting production and employment in the impoverished south.

If he moves the country even further left, especially economically, I'm concerned about the effects that would have on the U.S. Trade issues will arise (though he's said he won't pull out of NAFTA) but if their economy tanks and goes the way of Venezuela, I would expect the immigration crisis we see now to pale in comparison.

But he's a socialist!  Everyone gets free stuff so everyone who wants free stuff will move to Mexico.  He even said that it's a human right to migrate and settle in the US so it must also be a human right to migrate and settle in Mexico.  Free stuff!  Yay!

Yea.

Just for fun go read Mexico’s immigration laws.  The progressives here say the US treats illegals terribly, just have one of them sneak into Mexico and see what happens.

Well, now there is another country for the Lefties to go to.  If Canada is too cold, they can go south too.  Especially if they believe in socialism.

Or any other country, especially developed nations, which are most of them.

Australia would be a great place for our libs to head for.

But, sadly for them, Australia has very restrictive and well enforced immigration policies. Most of the immigration policy of AU deals with being financially independent, and able to invest there and never be an economic burden. Which leaves out any community organizers(unless maybe they are union bosses who've stolen their members dues).

Fact is even the shithole countries of the world have better immigration enforcement than the US, and most of the time their enforcement is on the side of brutality.

To be fair, it's a bit harder to illegally immigrate to Australia than it is to the U.S.

Who said anything about illegal? All the whiners on the left I heard wanted to leave the US voluntarily. So - go. Don't let the door hit them in the ass. But I will caution that all the nice places they can go, that might have a similar lifestyle to the US(like AU), won't let them in unless they are wealthy already. Even with that, AU is kind of picky on other factors.

He's a populist from way back, though it is unclear how he'll accomplish the stuff he promised.  The Cartels are all operating out of Venezuela, where they have a very friendly government.  Most of the folks in charge of the military and close to Maduro have deep ties with the Narcos.
