Where is it implied that he is running for anything? He's a political and public figure. Does one have to be running for office before this type of activity is unacceptable?

There is an internet archive, the wayback machine. If you claim this is recycled, please use it to reference which web site published it. I presume that prior to making such a statement of fact that you actually know it to be true, so this should not be a difficult task.
If you cannot do this then the only conclusion that I will be able to draw is that you will make false statements that you wish were true.

It may or may not have made the internet rounds in 2008, but it definitely did not make the evening news as it would have had it been McCain, Romney or Trump.

It was a subtle link and I missed it. Ok, this was a minor story years ago.
But I still stand by my position - if you make a claim of something factual and you cannot provide the facts behind it then you're just blowing off steam. That goes for anyone, but you were the one making the claim here. You were right. This time ;D
