Title: Should Trump Help Pay for Co-Defendants Legal Expenses?
Post by: EppyGA - White Christian Domestic Terrorist on September 01, 2023, 02:15:40 PM
Lots of posts on X about Trump, the billionaire, being unwilling to assist his co-defendants with their legal expenses. I know Jenna Ellis has a Gp-Fund-Me, I think, to raise money.

I’m not going to pretend to be qualified to have an opinion about that. I know nothing of the numbers involved, the cash flow situation (just because he’s a multi billionaire in net worth doesn’t necessarily mean he can liquidate everything quickly) the defense costs which are surely in the millions, the accounting issues, the legal implications (does him paying for their defense strengthen the RICO charge?) or anything else related to why he “should” or shouldn’t pay.

I just sort of remember that he could not pay them from his campaign or PAC funds, which would be illegal.  I don't remember anything about any other payment or non-payment.  Of course the "it would be illegal for him to pay from campaign funds but they are negotiating on other funds" would be lost in the MSM spin.

And if he just outright paid them I guess it would be considered a gift which has tax consequences.
