So I don't know if this is from himself prior to his passing or from his family, but in addition to refusing to have Trump at his funeral, his running mate in 2008 Gov. Palin has been told in no uncertain terms to stay away.
Petty self-serving BS, whether it was McCain himself or his family it speaks to his nature as a small and petty man.
Just when I thought I couldn't hold a lower opinion of him, they kick Palin to the curb - she's the only thing on that ticket I was voting FOR, the rest was AGAINST Obama - and this is how they treat her.
Pathetic, if only he would have left office and allowed the current Republican Governor Ducey to appoint someone who could build a record but instead he just held on.

There are so many blacks I would have loved to have as the first black president I can't list them all but look what we got. On election night when there was a chance Hillary was going to win I was almost sick to my stomach.

The McCain spectacle now underway is amusing, if not sickening at the same time.
Remember, it was John McCain who picked Palin as his running mate, with the approval of his inner circle. Then after McCain blows the election he and his inner circle place the blame on Palin, instead of McCain's abysmal campaign. Once again McCain demonstrates he can't be held for his own faults.
And the MSM. Remember back to the 2008 election when the MSM savaged McCain for daring to run against the messiah. These MSM types drug McCain through the mud and tarred and feathered him. Now we have the same MSM, and in many cases the same shit spewing talking heads gushing over John McCain as if he were a saint, and attacking anyone who dares say anything different.
Why? Well that's obvious, because McCain hated the President. And in McCain's final days he added even more hatred of the President because? Because he knew the MSM would double down on it and elevate McCain even higher during his week long funeral tour. Manipulation at it's best.
And who did John McCain pick for his eulogy? Why none other than Barry Soetoro (aka Barack Hussein Obama), the same guy who belittled and smeared John McCain in 2008 and after.
John is going out with a funeral typically reserved for heads of state, which is exactly what he wanted. And he's using the event as his final jab at those he disliked, which is typical McCain. No dignity in the end.

I pulled my daughter out of school one day when McCain and Palin campaigned in Albuquerque - it was very clear who the rock star was that day, and it was not a member of the Keating 5.
I remember thinking after the end of her acceptance speech at the convention that I had just seen the woman who would be the first female President of the United States - but then the media just savaged her, and in the end McCain tossed her aside and then ran her over with the bus - the so-called conservative intelligentsia at that time also truly revealed their stripes for the first time too.
America was founded in large part on a rejection of the concept of a permanent political class - McCain is the worst kind of snake who has half the people conned that he is one thing, when in reality he is something far, far worse.

No question both DJT and McCain are ego driven, and both are narcissists. Heck, everyone of power gets some personality defects along the way. The important differences are that DJT has come through his challenges with success, even after some serious setbacks, he's still come back with great successes in business, and now politics. McCain on the other hand parlayed his failings along with a wealthy wife to extend his reach far, far beyond his actual capabilities. He didn't write one word of the McCain Feingold act. Waffled each of his 30 years in office, and constantly played one end against the middle as long as it would advance his own cause, at the cost of the electorate.
McCain was first and foremost about McCain. He would have been a Carter kind of president, coming from the distaff side of govt. I know he got the DFC for his actions in Vietnam, but my guess is that had more to do with garlanding his father's son rather than actual distinguished flight capability. How he stayed in the senate for so long says volumes about the need for some kind of limits on senators. I would say 18 years and out is my thinking. Just like FDR brought in prez term limits.

I personally was not enamored of Palin. I don't like to see the fringe on either side get that kind of power, even though I agreed with her most of the time.
And I hold McCain responsible for nominating someone that couldn't possibly stand up to the scrutiny of the press and win. That selection was a Hail-Mary shot to revive a failing campaign, and he fumbled badly. McCain himself was a horrible choice for the Rs to place on the ballot in the first place.
The only reason he got all those glowing accolades from the press and Hollywood was for his vehement hate for Trump, which he allowed to influence his votes to the detriment of the country.
I will always respect him for his war record and for the way he conducted himself as a POW. But my respect stops there.,

McCain sunk his campaign. Palin did not just show up one day and place herself on his ticket. He wanted her, his staff approved and they offered her the position. McCain ran a terrible campaign, and no matter who he put on the ticket he would have lost.

Seems the dems in the last election ran a woman who throughout her political life had no accomplishments, other than getting several Americans killed in Benghazi, committing felonies by having a private email server and having that email server hacked by the Chinese who were reading her highly classified emails in real time. My university held a memorial service for McCain last night. I didn't always agree with his politics, but I'm grateful to him for his years of sacrifice while in the military, so I went. It was a "silent muster", preceded by a bugle call and ended with taps and Amazing Grace on bagpipes. The entire Corps of Cadets was there, and all of us stood in silence for about 15 minutes. Impressive service, and IMHO wholly appropriate. I'm glad I went, though as far as I could tell I was the only faculty member there. Even here, most of the faculty are liberal/progressive.

McCain pissed on his constituents that elected him to office. He pissed on his fellow sailors in the military. His military career was lackluster and mediocre at best. If it hadn't been for his father he would have been kicked out of the Navy.

Fact: Had McCain not been attacking the President the media wouldn't had given his funeral 1% of the coverage it received. In typical JM fashion he used this to ensure his funeral got the press he felt he deserved.

The faculty of virtually every university is made of alt-left progressives. No surprise there.
As for John McCain, the ONLY reason the lefties are praising him is that he absolutely hated President Trump and anyone that moved the leftist ball down the court is useful to the left.
The fact that McCain delivered the fake dossier on behalf of the deep state is proof enough that he was loyal to the progressive cause and not his country, so his military record is very questionable to those of us that think instead of emote.
I will always be curious as to how he avoided being indicted along with the rest of the Keating Five. Maybe having Daddy Admiral and Grandaddy Admiral was enough, just as it was when he wrecked the boat and didn't get court marshalled, or kicked out.
As for Sarah Palin, McCain would have lost by far more than three million votes had he chosen a progressive republican to run with him. She saved him from losing by a record number of electoral votes, a record even he wouldn't have been able to live down.

Nope. I wouldn't say the things that have been said here about McCain if it was Trump who died, and I freely admit that I loathe Trump.
Oh, and "here" is a military academy, which is the only reason I commented that the faculty are mostly liberal. I'm well aware that it's true at nearly every other university.

The only reason he was a war hero is because he was captured and he was too damn mean and stubborn even for the North Vietnamese to break him.

That is because on the other sites, if you speak the truth about McCain, everyone gets their panties in a wad and the thread gets deleted.
The only reason he was a war hero is because he was captured and he was too damn mean and stubborn even for the North Vietnamese to break him.
And the only reason he is being so revered in the press now is because of his hatred for Trump and how he voted with the Democrats just to spite Trump.
He has always been a mean, spiteful, hateful curmudgeon (except in front of a camera). Senators from both parties used to cross the street so they didn't have to talk to him.

Funny, up until about 2015 these same talking heads and pundits told us McCain was a racist, a homophobe and white supremist who wanted to bring back slavery. We were told how dishonest he was, how suspect his military record was and of course how he was guilty of being in the Keating 5 and should have been indicted.
Don’t believe me? Just go do some research on McCain during the past 30 years.
Had McCain died before 2015 his funeral would have barely been covered.

The media cycle is so quick they think we all forget that they called McCain, Bush, Romney, and other Trump haters the Devil for YEARS before Trump was a political force. Now they think all these RINO's are great because they hate Trump, and are no longer in power. The MSM are just liars.

My university held a memorial service for McCain last night. I didn't always agree with his politics, but I'm grateful to him for his years of sacrifice while in the military, so I went. It was a "silent muster", preceded by a bugle call and ended with taps and Amazing Grace on bagpipes. The entire Corps of Cadets was there, and all of us stood in silence for about 15 minutes. Impressive service, and IMHO wholly appropriate. I'm glad I went, though as far as I could tell I was the only faculty member there. Even here, most of the faculty are liberal/progressive.
Relax. If you were a dick when you were alive, you don’t get to avoid being considered a dick after you die.
To make matters worse, he dictated dick things to happen after he died, like who was not invited, who was asked to give a eulogy knowing they would turn it into a political rally, and other things. The premise of the OP is accurate.
This was his politics, and his politics sucked. He turned from a selfless officer at the Hanoi Hilton to a selfish, vindictive, career swamp dweller in his elected life.
If I was in Annapolis I would stand at attention at his funeral and fully respect the sacrifice he gave as a POW. For that he deserved such a send off. He didn’t deserve the political royalty treatment he received in death.
