Title: Election Day a federal holiday
Post by: Ron22 on February 06, 2019, 07:20:07 AM
Making Election Day a federal holiday to me sounds like politicians that are out of touch.  First there is already laws about taking time off to vote. Second people that work in the private sector will still have to work. It will just be another government holiday were Banks and government office are closed.

Just think if the Republicans suggested it.
You would hearing about how it disenfranchise the poor vote, they can not take the bus to the voting place.

I guess they can't make election day on Saturday or Sunday for religious reasons, but that would make the most sense to me.

Raaacist! You’d be suppressing the vote of people who work on weekends!

No, the answer is, people get their asses to the courthouse to register, and to their polling place to vote. Can’t drive? Get a relative or neighbor or friend to take you. This is not rocket science. The easier it is to vote, the more fraud you get.  Community and accountability should fill these gaps, not the guvmint, which we all know is soooo incorruptible!

You have standards and rules for basic things in life. Voting is no different. Absentee ballots used to require initiative AND justification (out of town, can’t leave work, etc.), remember?

It is just another opportunity to bus AFSCME and SEIU members to the polls, while most people will have to continue to work.

Most people don’t get Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Day, and most recently Emancipation Day in DC.

^^^^^This.  Man I hate AFSCME and SEIU, the AFT, NEA, and all the rest of the communist public sector unions.  A close friend of mine was married to the daughter of the then AFSCME President, whom I met on several occasions.  If you look up "slimy" in the dictionary, you'll see his picture.
