I didn't have audio on the first time I watched the video. Based on what I could make out it looked like the perp was only using his fists in an attempt to beat away the officers to run away and was shot while retreating.

When I watched it a second time with the audio on I learned he was his stabbing the officers with a screwdriver. That put a completely different take on things.
