I had a conversation recently with a woman that I've known for years as a work colleague and friend. I typically respect many of her views. However, we got talking about potential Biden VP candidates, and tangentially Oprah came up. I asked her why Oprah had this mystic Svengali effect on many women.
She said:
Oprah "gets" women.
She is "on the side" of women.
She is viewed as a giver, nurturer, and a generous person.
She's viewed as nice and has a pleasant, HONEST personality and persona.
She is viewed as understanding and a good listener.
My view of Oprah is:
She's convinced women that MEN have dominated, controlled and abused them since forever.
Whatever women't predicaments are, "It is NOT THEIR FAULT". Mostly it is Men's and societies fault.
Women are always VICTIMS.
Women need others to "EMPOWER THEM".
Women need some type of government affirmative action to get ahead.
There is a "Glass Ceiling".
Government is benevolent, benign and there to help you.
Men are the enemy and not to be trusted. Only put up with them if they can be dominated and controlled. "Cucks" if you will.
Women DESERVE (entitled) to get things and preferential treatment based upon past 'WRONGS".
Also, reports are Oprah is anything but her public persona when off camera or not in public under Media scrutiny. She is rude, condescending, Narcissistic, harsh, critica, extremely demanding, and just overall NOT a nice person. Here entire shtick is an ACT which she carefully developed purely for her own financial gain.
Am I off base here?

I used to like her, many, many years ago before she got all into politics and before “Democrats” became de facto communists. She has charisma, and a way of sounding very down to your level and empathetic. It is of course the last thing she is, down to the level of us ordinary folk. Her struggle with weight for example. I stopped feeling that she empathized with me when I saw a spread about how her private chef prepared delicious low calorie dishes for her.

I know some old retired Milwaukee Police officers that remember a young Oprah being a hooker back in the day.

I saw an interview with her not too long ago. Maybe a year or two. She was asked what she would change, or do differently now, looking back and with all her success and wealth. Her answer? She said she would focus more on losing weight and being thin. Really? That's what the sum total of your rise to fame, wealth and power taught you?
To that shows a true pathology in view of "SELF". Very telling.

“There are so many secrets in her life, secrets about her relationships, secrets within her family,” Kelley told Lauer. “Even when she was writing her own autobiography, and she was finally going to come forward, she described herself as a ‘prostitute,’ which is a rather harsh description, I think.

Oprah is a billionaire. No one get to be a billionaire by being nice. A millionaire, maybe, but never a billionaire.

“Fox & Friends” swung into action Friday after Oprah Winfrey’s strong embrace of Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, with one guest warning viewers that the daytime queen was being used to as a left-wing prop to promote Socialism.
“I don’t think that her platform will help,” said GOP strategist Jenna Ellis. “Oprah really represents the far left’s socialist agenda and that’s not going to resonate in the mid-terms with the American family that cares about money in their pockets, cares about the economy, cares about the things that President Trump has done in terms of putting America first.”
Ellis said that Georgia voters would be much more inclined to embrace hard right religious figures James Dobson and Franklin Graham, who would promote traditional “family values.”

Where do we go from here? More angst, hand wringing, White Guilt, White Privilege, more government programs, etc.
The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired from 1986 to 2011, famously tackled race over the show’s 25-year history. Now, due to the protests over the police killing of George Floyd and countless others, Oprah is going back to her roots by hosting a two-night town hall on racism in America.
The special is titled OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here? and will air June 9 and 10 on OWN. Additionally, the town hall will be “simulcast across all 18 of Discovery's linear networks (including Discovery Channel, TLC, HGTV and Science Channel) and on OWN's social channels, in addition to the company's worldwide platforms,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Guests will include Stacey Abrams, Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay, New York Times writer Charles M. Blow, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, historian and author Ibram Kendi, actor David Oyelowo, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and NAACP national board member Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.

I expect a couple hours of "blame honky" for all their problems, real or imagined. It would be nice to have a true town hall to get perceptions from all sides. But more likely they would invite some Nazis as representative of the other side to demonstrate that all white people are evil.

Actually, I expect a surface level scratch of a conversation. I won't know if I'm right or wrong because I probably won't watch it in real-time, if at all.

I think the article was a bit unfair and I think Oprah, at the time of the writing still had not resolved her psychological issues resulting from years of sexual abuse as a child. Sexual trauma is real and the resultant behaviors often go unrecognized in this society; sadly we just chastise, ostracize and/or lock them up.
