You might imagine I would be careful about who I let stay in my house.... and what access they would have to certain possessions of mine.

I saw the same thing in parts of Cleveland Metro. The houses are not maintained and they collapse upon themselves.
The worst areas are next to industrial areas that are covered with abandoned buildings that have lord knows what in them and in the soil around them. The areas are around and near the Cuyahoga River that famously caught on fire several times.

These kids will be traumatized ostensibly. Are they screened for problems they have that might pose a danger to people housing and ostensibly parenting them?
Is there an adequate number of foster care homes in the United States for AMERICAN minors?
And on and on. This ad showed up on Next Door. I asked these questions, others chimed in, and the whole post was removed.

Oh HELL no. All kinds of reasons to stay away from that.
Bedbugs, tuberculosis, malaria, failure to be paid rent, charges of pedophilia, can’t get rid of them when they trash your house, etc. I wouldn’t house an illegal unaccompanied “child” (teenager?) for anything.

Since they exist whether you or I prefer they not be here, leaving them homeless would lead to some very unpleasant results. At least this does not appear to be a government dictate (hard to tell since the text is so hard to read) but a call for volunteers.

Not only that you will become liable for them. It happened to a couple who adopted what they thought was a 5 year old girl from Eastern Europe and it turned out she was actually a dwarf, almost fully grown. She was violent toward them and they eventually set her up in an apartment but ended up charged with abandonment of a “child” and in a lot of legal trouble.
You cannot tell me that if you agree to take one of these kids - and keep in mind a “minor” can be any age up to 17 - into your home, that you won’t be held responsible for continuing to care for them even after you find out you made a big mistake. If no one claims them and there’s nowhere else for them to go, you will be permanently on the hook.

Damned if we do and damned if we don’t. Yes, leaving them homeless would be a massive problem. We already have a problem with homeless Americans. The last thing we need is a bunch of foreign street urchins.
But if we take them in the word will spread and create even more incentive for more and more to come. “Just get inside the country and they’ll give you a home, food, clothes, school, medical care, toys, people to look after you and pay for all your needs.” That will make the problem explode even more.
We need to stop them before they cross the border. We need to station the military all along the border and treat this as the hostile invasion it is. Let the coyotes and their “unaccompanied minors” realize the scheme isn’t going to work anymore. Let them risk death if they attempt to enter illegally.

My brother and his wife couldn’t have children of their own so they adopted two Hispanic girls as babies from shithole Central American countries LEGALLY. These girls are now fantastic adult women with husbands and children of their own and I am very proud to say NOT DEMOCRATS. These kids indeed enriched their lives and will care for them when they’re old.
This might not be the outcome if you foster an older illegal who’s been through God knows what already for many years, used by traffickers as a ruse to commit the crime of sneaking into this country, and you’re being paid by some government program or charity. It’s a setup for disaster.
