Title: December 7, 1941

My uncle was on a U. S. Navy ship that day. No one in the family knew where, though. It was some time until they could determine he was not at Pearl Harbor.

There are many theories on Pearl Harbor.  Some believe we knew it was coming, and allowed it to happen as a way to get us into the war, as we were still an isolationist nation.   We had been restricting the flow of natural resources to Japan for some time, and would not relent.  Should Japan have attacked us?  NO, it was a stupid move, by a warrior led coupe.  The people that lost were the 2,000 sailors, soldier, Marines, and civilians that died in the attack, and subsequently those that died during the war, worldwide.

The Japanese living in the U.S., aliens, and U.S. citizens were rounded up, and put in internment camps.  What many either forget or don't realize is that Germans, and Italians were also put in internment camps.  My family was spared, I guess, because even my Grandparents were born here in the U.S. so, my Dad, 19 years old in 1941 was allowed to stay in Dental School become a Private in the U.S. Army, and then a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation where he spent the next four or five years as an Army officer rising to the rank of Captain.  Others were not so lucky, spending the entire war in camps.

Pearl Harbor was a tragedy, and I feel for those that died, and their families.  They were true heroes, and the greatest generation.

Well ... Obama was born in Honolulu and spent years living in Hawaii.

Obama is scheduled to visit Pearl Harbor on December 27 (where he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe):

I'm sure the remaining veterans who took the time to attend, many knowing this will be their last visit, will take solace knowing the POTUS can't recognize the significance of the 75th anniversary of the attack of Pearl Harbor and it's significance.    ::)

Ah, he went there twice, during an election campaign.  OK then.

Once during a vacation. Once after he was in office. Hawaii is hardly a swing state with a lot of electoral votes in any election.

The complaint was that Obama visited Hiroshima but hadn't visited Pearl Harbor to honor the sacrifice of those who died. Complaint had no factual basis and therefore invalid.

Nice twist again Logajan.  I made a comment of visiting Japan this year, but skipping the 75th anniversary of the attack. Your feeble attempt to twist my words by trying to claim I said he never went there, ever.

 Pathetic.

(Maybe he learned from the disaster caused by Bill Clinton at the 50th anniversary of D-Day).

You mean making a cross out of stones on the beach?

"At the end of the day in Normandy, Bill Clinton walked down to the beach with three veterans of Omaha Beach -- Joe Dawson, Walter Ehlers and Robert Slaughter. The tableau was appealing: the young President enjoying the company of the aging heroes. But suddenly the President's aides began tugging the veterans away, mid-conversation, so that Clinton could walk off at sunset down the beach in his dress shoes and have a preplanned meditative moment, with the bluffs on one side and the sea dotted with warships on the other.

"Originally, the White House told photographers they were considering a "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" moment, where Clinton and children would throw flowers into the sea. But they settled on "a moment of solitude." The President knew he was supposed to look reflective for the three cameras and dozen photographers who joined him.

"But after looking soulfully out at the ocean for a moment, he seemed at a loss for what to do next, according to a photographer on the scene, who was scared that Clinton was about to mouth the words "What do I do now?" But then, spying the stones at his feet left by his advance staff to show him where his camera mark was, the President crouched down and began to arrange the stones into a cross.

"He gathered more stones to finish the cross, and then bent his head as though in silent prayer. The White House aides were ecstatic. "Wasn't it great?" they asked reporters."

They are banking on Chelsea getting at seat in Congress in New York.  They (the Foundation, I bet) bought her the house next to theirs in Chappaqua so she'd have residency there.  Chelsea and her husband Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker on Wall St. (son of activist Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky, and convicted felon Edward Mezvinsky) currently live in.......wait for it.......Manhattan.

If Chelsea gets nominated by the Dem Party, and she will, she will win that seat, and Bill and Hillary will have some influence again.  :(

Traditionally, American presidents do not bow to kings. The tradition stems from the American Constitution, which states that all men are created equal.

The uproar about Obama largely stems from his deep bows to Saudi kings. You probably recall a date in 2001 when 19 Saudis attacked the United States horrifically.

The only people expected to bow to a king or queen are subjects of that king or queen.

Obama thinks that we are the reason that Iran is the way it is and the Ayatollas are so pissed.  He thought by showing them what a nice guy he is and by weakening the US  that they would see we're not such bad guys and like us.    He succeeded in doing what he wanted, showing them he's a nice guy and weakening the US, but, predictably, they still hate us.

YET, you cannot accept that President Obama wasn't bowing, but bending down to the King's level? Really? Talk about deranged.

What's even more funny is the Bush photo montage emerged as a response to all the bellyaching about Obama. Well, how did the Obama photo gain so much traction?

It was a funding ploy from the RNC. And conservatives that were aghast Barack Obama was their President bought it and sucked it up.

Fifth picture is of Bush and the Pope.  This is religious, the Pope is not a head of state but the head of the Catholic Church.

The Pope is head of Vatican City, a sovereign state.
The montage contained material unrelated to my point and except for the photo of Bush getting a medal, none of the objections were relevant. The objection to the Bush "bow" is valid; my apology. In my simple search I saw the following images but was too lazy to include them. I will do so now.

Jim, I like the Bacall pic!  Nice!!!

Harry, not so much, but at least he was a sane Democrat as opposed to what we have today.  :)

You guys crack me up. You offer a perfectly legitimate explanation for the four photos posted by Jim. The logic in explaining all the photos, remarkably, is sound.

YET, you cannot accept that President Obama wasn't bowing, but bending down to the King's level?

As our local sportscasters says....Let's go to the video tape...

He bent down the level of the King's stomach.  His face was facing down.  His eyes were down.  His knee was bent.  He didn't stay there, he went down and came back up.

I call that a bow.

Really? Talk about deranged.

Yes....talk about....

There is no picture of Nixon and Mao.

If you say so. Don't ever do a Google image search on "Nixon and Mao".

The picture of Nixon and Hirohito, Nixon is not bowing to him, he's leaning closer to hear him.

I'll take your word for it since that is all you offer.

Ike is getting a medal from DeGaulle, again he's not bowing in servitude.

What medal? Of course he's not bowing in servitude (neither was Obama - though you may think so, else why bitch about it?) though Ike has the classic bow from the waist. This is a photo of him getting a medal from De Gaulle:

Obama is bending over for the kid to touch his head.

Gosh thanks - I would have never guessed!

Your last pic is pointless.

That is the best picture of the bunch! Bacall on a piano is never pointless.

Keep chalking up your FAILS.

At least I think Obama was a failure for reasons that make sense and I don't complain about inane trivialities - like you do - that distract from those important failings. Important things like: Want to compare the personal costs of Obamacare? Our health insurance for two people was costing us ~$12,000/year in 2016 and was going to ~$19,500/year in 2017. Had to switch to the lowest price plan available (short of having no insurance at all) which will still cost us ~$13,500/year. Because we earn over the threshold (but aren't rich by any definition) for subsidies we get no relief at all from the feds.

But then I run our own business. I have no idea what you do. Complain without backing references, mostly, if your postings to this forum are any indication?

The picture you attempted to post doesn't show up on this forum.

Comprehension is not your strong point is it?

Business must be way down as evidenced by your spending time on the net making inane arguments and posting pics you haven't bothered to research or even look at.  ::)

Obama is neither the first nor will he be the last to bow to foreign leaders.

Don't let logic and reasoning get in the way of a good teeth gnashing diatribe.

Let him have it. It adds to the utter lack of any credibility he or she has.
