Just out of curiosity, tell me you didn't place the current American flag on the confederate soldiers' graves.
Personally, I think it's a bunch of nothing, but seems goofy to give equal rights to confederate soldiers since they were indeed the enemy of the U.S.
But really, tearing down statues and getting upset about the rebel flag...those are people with too much time on their hands. People in the south who enjoy seeing the rebel flag and references to Lee aren't pro-slavery, they're just having some fun and enjoy their ties to the southern states. Yes, there's some pride to be from the south because things are different there.
And most of the people are embarrassed that the KKK and neo-nazis are embracing their old flag.
Times have changed. I have friends in several southern states and they really don't take the ties to the south seriously. Some have the old flag license plates, etc. But they also have close friends and family who are black and Hispanic and want no part of any prejudice. We all know it exists, but we're just not close to anyone who feels that way, so it seems odd that something like this can get so out of hand.
I live just a few miles from the Mizzou campus where all the cameras were last year. The damage the protesters did to our state, city and university won't be undone for decades. Enrollment is down in the double digits thanks to the protesters who got their fifteen minutes and disappeared. The name has been tarnished and it was amazing how often people I've known forever emailed me asking about the danger in town. I LIVE HERE and never saw anything - nothing, except what was on the news. One thing I can say is that every town has idiots, racists (of every color), big mouths and wannabes.
The current situation got out of hand because of one idiot who wanted attention and thought it would be cool to mow down a crowd. I know most of you will say he was attacked, etc, but anyone with even one functioning brain cell knows that's not what happened. He was an idiot with too much time on his hands, not enough real worries, and found a group of morons to associate with. To fuel the flames was the group of counter-protesters. To be fair, another group of people with too much free time, but by and large most, but not all of them, were peaceful.
I used to say that people crying racism were out of touch and looking for attention. And then I come here and see a lot of the crap being said and it's obvious I'm out of touch. People like that do exist, and apparently in numbers big enough to warrant more attention. Because it obviously is a problem. Whodathunk, in this day and age.
