Why is there so much hype over this solar eclipse? I just happened to be in the zone of totality a couple of times and in the partial zone a few more and other than it getting dark and a little chilly it's no big deal. Yet there's all this "here's what you need to do to prepare for the eclipse!" stuff. Yes, if I had one I'd fly my Learjet to Nova Scotia to see one, but otherwise, why?

Any excuse for a party?

The people I work with are in the path and they are getting ready to be flooded with thousands of eclipse tourists. All the hotels are booking up, etc. We’re not that far from it and I’d like to go see it but I’m not willing to deal with traffic and crowds. I’ve been just on the edge of a total, it’s pretty neat, but so short that the return on investment in terms of trouble doesn’t make it worth traveling for IMO.

Because the idiot Leftists want to blame it on man made climate change.

Come on, eclipse! I'm so over the hysteria over it. Bad traffic! No bread or tp at the stores! All bullshit. We got home fron a 12 day trip yesterday and there was no traffic. Went grocery shopping this morning, no crowds and everything in stock. But I am excited to be in the 100% totality coverage.
-
Our local EAA chapter is having a flyout to totality. Good reason to go flying, but there's a LOT of aircraft flying about today. I saw that there's a 100% increase in GA traffic compared to a normal Monday. Y'all be safe out there.
OOH!!! An hour to go before the apocalypse!
-
The 2017 one was total in Madras, Oregon, and their little airport had over 500 planes land there.
-
Well, that was exciting. But I understand that in about six hours from now (it's 2pm) an entire PLANET will come between me and the sun. That should be amazing!
-
The news coverage was piss poor.
It seems like the networks had No Idea how to properly cover an eclipse.
The bullshit they slung around was pitiful.
We set up our loudspeaker and played Cat Stephen, Moon Shadow for the people watching with us.

It was 91% where I am, and I wanted to see it, but I had a doctor appointment at 12:45, just after it began, and it was cloudy and raining anyway, so I resigned myself to missing it.
The doctor was done with me around the maximum at 1:45 and a few minutes later I walked outside. My car was only about 20 steps away, just a few seconds of walking from building to car. It had stopped raining but the sky was still full of clouds and I looked up: Just then a large grey cloud moved to reveal what looked like a crescent new moon. I stared right at it and as the mist further cleared I realized it wasn’t the moon but the crescent of sun behind the dark disc of the moon, also discernible, still through enough mist that it wasn’t bright enough to hurt my eyes but very clear and plain, and all surrounded by heavy grey clouds. I looked at it about two seconds before another cloud covered it back up and it was gone. A few more steps to my car, we drove off and it started raining again.
It was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen. No safety glasses, no pinholes in boxes, just perfect timing and no eye damage. I will never forget it. You can’t convince me that wasn’t a gift from God. It’s like He pulled the curtain back just for me, and just for two seconds so as not to let me damage my eyes, just as I happened to look up in the short distance between the building and the car.
Furthermore as we left the building (my husband was with me) we were delayed several seconds by an old lady with a walker who was in front of us and excruciatingly slow. But we were patient and did not try to push past her. If we had, the timing would have been off and I would have missed it. My husband missed it anyway, he was busy unlocking the car and by the time I yelled at him about it, it was gone.
Maybe that was a lesson from God not to be impatient with slow old people.

The peak hit at our nap time. Outside temp went from 78 down to 74 or maybe lower and then back to 78. Exciting stuff. ;D
-
100% totality for around 4 minutes. It was pretty damn cool.
-
One of the twats on the view thinks mmgw caused the eclipse.
I doubt anything else needs to be said about the subject.
Intelligent humans should be able to see right thru her idiocy.

Yes, my outdoor temp went down 4-5 degrees.

How is something that stupid even allowed to be broadcast? Okay, freedom of speech I guess.
The eclipse is just the solar system and basic orbital mechanics. Are they not teaching that in school anymore?

My wife put on a sweatshirt due to the temp drop.

There are no actual teaching standards anymore. Beyond hammering the kids with bullshit liberal assholery, and blaming republicans for everything from the ice age to solar flares, there is very little education anywhere, anymore.

Just wait for the mighty geniuses to tell us we never landed on the moon

For you non Twitter people, Sheila Jackson Lee says the moon is made up of gasses, and the sun is almost too hot to get near. Unless that’s a deep fake video, because I can hardly believe anyone is that stupid.
LOL! Scott Presler, ever the optimist, says, “This video gives hope that literally anyone can be elected to Congress.” Hahaha!

As long as they check the right demographic boxes. I would have no chance of being elected. But then again, it seems that being elected to Congress is verification that one is beyond stupid. Or evil. Or both.
