Title: New Years Eve: What is Everyone Doing?

Well my mom died this morning.

Does that cheer you up?   ;D

Hey, sorry you’re sick, I take it you mean the Covid crap?

What I’m doing is the sort of stuff you do, you know, when somebody dies. We didn’t have any plans to celebrate the new year anyway. We were doing the death watch thing wondering if she was going to make it to 2024. It makes a difference in how I file her taxes and who knows what other stuff.

She was just a couple months shy of 97 so while we are sad it’s not like it’s a surprise. She had a long life and a good one, and was an extraordinarily good person.  Her heart finally gave out.  She died in her own bedroom with two of her children by her side holding her hand.

So sorry for your loss Rush. She lived a long time.

Based on the thread title, I was wondering if it was about Biden and what he might do tonight.

Number 7, sorry for your crud. We have a lot of church members down with COVID.

Sorry to read, Rush, I can sympathize. My mom was in home hospice waiting to die for 6 months and it was family affair to watch over her. She was partially paralyzed by a stroke and had difficulty speaking at all and was bed-ridden so had to be hand-fed. But when she did speak it was clear she was still able to understand family chatter and think clearly. She lamented at one point "What a horrible way to die." I'm pretty sure she was expecting to die shortly after leaving the hospital, but her body was stronger than the doctors estimated for a 98 year old woman (she died a week after her 99th birthday.)

Get well soon.
I'm sure anything I could do to cheer you up would be painful to me.  ;)

Well… I WAS feeling blue but now I’m grateful to be fine.

It is. It is not Covid, just the crud.

You all be safe… drive carefully, and prayers for Rush and her family.

Thanks everyone.

Here’s to a Happy New Year for us all.  I have a feeling it’s going to be a strange year, maybe with a good ending? Long about November?

Hey I just heard the first firework somebody set off.  It’s not even dark yet.

Gosh Rush, I am so sorry.  We all knew it was coming but that doesn't really help.

So are you.

We were very blessed to have her for a mother. Only Jesus and the Virgin Mary had a more pure soul.  That’s what I think anyway.

In June 2015 I flew my 172 from New Hampshire to Ohio to visit my Mom living with my brother before continuing on to Kansas.  I stayed a couple of days taking care of her giving brother and his wife a short break.  For me this was unusual time of year to go to Kansas I usually went in Sept.  Gut feelings told me to go early this year, called Steve, my brother, and set it up with him.  After getting to Kansas with my sister we were checking the farm a couple of days later  Steve called with the news Mom had just died, she was 99.   A wave of both sadness and happiness swept over me as I was able to see her before she went.   Steve took care of things on his end as Lois and I took care of things in Kansas to bring her back home and the funeral.

Blessed indeed. I like to think her legacy will live on in her family. Since everything else we accomplish crumbles to dust, the influence we have on other souls is all that keeps going, affecting lives far beyond our own throughout time. “Love is the only enduring power.”

I wonder if trying to keep our bodies healthy kind of backfires when the body keeps going like that. My Mom’s health at 96 is excellent, she’s on no meds at all, her heart is strong, and the doctor says her blood work is better than his. She has made a real effort for years to stay healthy, with exercise, selected supplements, and watching her diet. And she has a rich spiritual life. While all this perhaps kept her active and happy and in her own home until she was 95 (most in my age group lost their parents years ago), I do sometimes dread her body outlasting her mind or her ability to be comfortable.

Amazing so many of us have mothers making it into the late 90s.  But not the men.  Men die sooner on average.  But my mother had a grandfather that lived to 104.

Rush, I am sorry for your loss I can understand how you feel.  All of my Mom's brothers and sisters (there were 8) lived into their 90's.  My Dad was 90 when he died. But normally you are correct, women do live longer than men.  My wife is 5 years older than me (don't EVER call her a cougar! ;D) so we may both go at the same time.  Never know what will happen in this life...  I feel so good seeing Mom just before she died even though in her state she thought I was her husband and she chewed me out for something "I" did about 8 years before I was born.  Steve still teases me about that.

Of Covid… just crud.

Maybe I assumed you would test and see if it’s Covid.  When I was sick a couple of years ago I didn’t test so I have no idea if it was Covid or not.  It was worse than a cold but not as bad as flu.  Hope you’re feeling better soon.  Maybe drink hot tea… with whiskey!

Went to a New Year's Eve party.  Stayed up way too late. Hungover. Going back to bed. Ugh

Fighting back a cold and happy to have made it through another year.  Mourning the loss of some friends and family.  Some successes, some things not so successful.  Overall more wins than losses.  Not happy about the overall state of the world and the country.  Frustrated that I can't do anything about it.  Worried about retirement... do I retire next year or go another couple of years?  Wife is still chronically ill but we're trying to remain positive.  Really not looking forward to what this country will go through in 2024.  But very happy to have friends here in The Zone who are more or less sane.

So sorry for your loss, Rush.  And Number7, get well soon.

Had a few friends and family over. Everyone left by 10:00. My 6 year old made it to 11:30. Then I turned off the TV and we all went to sleep before midnight. But I woke up at 5:30 and couldn't fall back asleep.

My husband and I have a tradition of banging in the new year, or at least we did until we became old fuddy duds that zonk out at 9 pm.  By the way that’s how we got our first child.

Anyway so last night I’m lying in bed about 9:00 watching Walking Dead on the iPad and all kinds of fireworks going off that sound like gunfire right outside the window. I wondered if it would keep me awake. It didn’t. Next thing I knew it was 5:30 am and I’d missed most of my WD episode, the iPad had turned itself off and hubby was up making homemade 3 meat hash with charcoal roasted Poblano peppers.

Thanks.

I’m feeling much the same. We’ve already retired and I’m seeing our savings actual value crash due to inflation.  I’m also worried about the kids and grandkids and the declining country they are inheriting and will have to deal with long after I’m gone.

How’s your cold N7?

How’s your cold N7?

The cough never lets up and the post nasal drip is mentally challenging, but it’s beginning to let up a little.

Thanks for asking.
