The debates are going on as I type.  I am not watching because I already know who I am going to vote for, so whatever happens during this debate is immaterial.

I hope Trump wins the 2020 election.  I hope this out of practical considerations like our national economy or our relationship with China, but mostly because I really, truly enjoy watching liberal heads explode.

But if he does not win, then I will still consider his presidency a success by virtue of his court appointments.  He has made a substantial difference to the makeup of the 9th Circuit, which I appreciate as a Californian, but he has also changed the makeup of the US Supreme Court,  changes that will last for a generation.  And who is to say that even though the country has (according to the MSM) made a turn to the left, that at some point in the future it couldn't make an equally hard turn to the right?

Anyway, I shouldn't drink so much during debates, and especially shouldn't post to social media.

desegregation was one of the major causes of the creation of inner city black slums.

I don't understand the connection.  Could you please elaborate?

while lawyers have earned a lot of disdain, I'm not sure we can blame for the lawyers for this...

Correct--although I'm sure lawyers were involved (disguised as legislators) proposition 65, which is the root of this mess, was directly voted into existence by California voters 63 to 37.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_California_Proposition_65

The wiki article includes a link to the current list of evil chemicals.  It includes marijuana smoke, alcoholic beverages, aspirin,  mustard gas, nickel, nitrous oxide, testosterone and wood dust.  It also includes hydrogen cyanide, the gas used in the California gas chamber, so if you're breathing that, please be careful because you could get cancer.  Same with the mustard gas.

I know I'm going to regret this, but I don't see what's objectionable about the cartoon.  In fact, I don't get it at all--why is it funny?

Edit:  Oh--the sixteenth.  Okay, I get that one.  I don't understand the one for the seventeenth.

I'm hopeful that it won't get overturned.  (I'm in Maskachusetts that has had a "high capacity" ban for decades)

I hear ya--I'm hopeful, too.

It's been estimated that Californians legally bought over one million magazines during the week from the time of the initial ruling to the time it was put on hold.  That adds, of course, to the millions of magazines that were already in the state.   Two observations:

One, how could the California state legislature possibly think that making magazines illegal can reduce crime?  The CA state attorney general, in his response to this most recent ruling, said that the magazine ban "keeps Californians safe".  I am not making this up.

Two, why is there never a bloodbath in (almost) the whole rest of the country?  You know--the states that don't have these draconian laws.

Anyway, if you are in the market for magazines, you'd better buy them now, because if the hold is taken away Californians are going to cause a nationwide shortage of the things.

The ninth circuit has upheld Judge Benitez's ruling that the "high capacity" magazine ban in CA is an infringement of the right to keep and bear arms protected by the Second Amendment.  Yes, the ninth circuit.  Only a three-judge panel, though, and the vote was 2-1.  Anyway, here's the opinion:

So for a while, at least, we may  experience a bit of freedom here in our socialist worker's paradise.

Howeer, it probably isn't quite respectful to wear a face mask with the flag on it.

I have no particular problem with a mask that has a stars and stripes theme, but I have seen people wearing actual flags as bandana-style masks, and that, to me, is disrespectful.  If a snowflake doesn't like any of these things because America, well that's a whole different issue...

There are various guns available that will shoot both .410 shotgun shells and .45 Colt cartridges.  The key is that they all have rifled barrels and are sold as pistols.  (At least the ones I've heard of...)  If they had smoothbore barrels then they would be short-barreled shotguns and illegal (or at least NFA items).   There are 12GA flare guns for maritime use.  One could, I suppose, shoot a regular 12GA shell in one, but it would be a one-time event, and the shooter had better have the emergency room on speed dial.

As for self-defense use, this gun only has two shots and, for all practical self-defense purposes, is not reloadable.  Joe Biden might go for it--I put my faith in a 12GA pump loaded with buckshot.

I assumed it took 12 gauge shells.

Chuck Norris wouldn't be able to hold onto that thing if it fired regular 12GA shells.   :)

I guess they consider it a pistol?

Because it's a black powder muzzleloader it's not considered a firearm by law.  That's why you can buy it direct without going through a dealer or otherwise having a license.  So it's not a sawed-off shotgun, pistol, or anything.

Her father was a U.S. citizen and she has so far been considered a U.S. citizen. Same issue came up for John McCain and Ted Cruz when they ran for president.

Good point, although the exact meaning of "natural born citizen" remains unresolved, in part because courts have decided that ordinary citizens have no standing to question a candidate's eligibility.  Some say that it's not even a legal issue, but rather a political one that needs to be addressed by Congress.

More and more it looks like Tammy Duckworth will be his running mate.

Tammy Duckworth would be problematic as a vice-president, since she was born in Thailand and is thus ineligible to be president.  So if Biden were president but for some reason became unable to continue, Pelosi would slide right into the spot.  Convenient.

If you haven't been following the other forum, you may have missed this.  I'm sure the computer-savvy know what's going on, but to the rest of us it's quite misleading.  Anyway, do this:  Go to google.com, type in any 3-digit number followed by "new cases" and search.

I would never have found this myself since my religion forbids using Google.

Edit:  Sheesh even Duck Duck Go does the same thing.  Is this actually legit?

That's nice.  Now for God's sake, all you Libertarians please recognize she doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell and vote for Trump in the general election.  We cannot allow the democrat candidate, whoever he/she/it is, to win.
