What the fuck?

Unbelievable. A guy pleads guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy and gets no prison time at all. The judge had previously signaled that he would use the President's public comments as mitigation evidence in his sentencing. No prison time is ridiculous.

I could not believe it when I heard that Trump's comments would be used to mitigate his sentence. WTF????
So the guy avoids prison completely and he is whining that he's gonna lose his benefits. UNF@#@$@ING believable.

Trump should have kept his mouth shut, just like Obama should have all those times.
But it is still UNF@#@$@ING believable that he got NO prison time. But the poor little darling had a "difficult childhood" so that excuses everything.

Plus the enemy already whooped his @$$.
I am curious as to why his DC didn’t plea for whistle blower status. I wonder if he ever appealed to the chain of command for his grievances of leadership failures.
Nevertheless, walking off his post was a stupidly risky thing to do.

I have been hearing from my friends in Fayetteville. My opinion is that he had better get out out of town quickly. Somebody is going to do something stupid and then it won't be a problem any more.

He didn't bond with his fellows, I think he may have some kind of disorder affecting his function in social situations. Maybe the military could do a better job of screening out such people. But no matter how uncomfortable the situation in which he found himself, he absolutely did the wrong thing.

I think he belongs in a mental institution along with his Jihadi looking, Muslim convert father.

I think the ARMY needs to do a better job of screening. Bergdahl had already washed out of the Coast Guard for psychological reasons.

Amazing.
And then we had the sailor who took 6 pictures inside a submarine and was thrown in jail for a year.

I did not know that! This brings up the question of the quality people the army recruits if they can't meet numbers without accepting such people with mental disorders. My thought is pay should be way, way higher. It's one of the few things I want to spend tax dollars on, it's one of the few jobs my Federal government is supposed to do for me.

Since there's no responsibility anymore, if someone does 'something' he/she will be tried, found guilty, and sentenced to -- nothing, just like Bergdahl.
Right? That's the takeaway from this, do the deed, apologize, take your chance at trial, whine about how 'unjust' everything is, and then get sentenced to no prison.
What do you suppose this will do to military command authority? I guess we're back to fragging to enforce discipline, if the courts are abdicating that task.

And then there is this: https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2017/11/08/army-to-determine-if-bergdahl-is-owed-back-pay-for-his-time-in-captivity/

He will not get back-pay and or benefits. Once he was found guilty of desertion in the face of the enemy, he forfeits any claim of POW status. This is the real world of you don't get to benefit from the situation you put yourself in. i.e. no desertion means still on active duty, means pay and benefits. Desertion means stop pay and allowances while you are AWOL, and once you are found guilty, no change in back pay. That article is just pandering.
