The USA I grew up with is already gone. Even with the tumult of the 1960s and early 1970s I didn’t see the threat to the country in my dad’s eyes that I see to the country today. I guess the greatest generation took the hippies and “revolutionaries” in stride.
I don’t have the same comfort with the radical leftist socialists. It’s like the hippies and revolutionaries bred, and bred their progeny in a social media era where we could conceivably lose the country to these literally stupid ideologies who never took a history course.

Seriously, the NSA are the least of our problems. For the most part they're a bunch of nerds whose mission is to prevent another 9/11. Their data collecting is highly focused on that mission. Don't believe everything Snowden said. I don't fear the NSA at all. The NSA has never done a thing to fuck with my daily life unlike the EPA, DOE, DOL, FDA, DEA, IRS, NPS, BATF etc. trying to control every aspect of our lives.
If you speak out as a conservative the NSA will not give one shit. The IRS will target you. The media are enemies of anyone not alt-left progressive and will lie to you and persecute you. The big technology companies (also owned and run by leftists) are collecting data to degrees only dreamed of by the NSA and are using it to control what information you see, and are salivating to sell it to the government to create mass universal surveillance just like China (start date 2020). Unlike the NSA they care how much water you use to flush your poop or whether you cut down a dead tree in your yard or if you say something patriotic on social media. It's the wet dream of the left, to watch and control every second of your day and punish you for any deviation from their unnatural anti-human collectivist group-think. Oh it's coming but it's not the NSA leading the charge and it's not them devising the technology. The enemy is much bigger and much more evil and insidious than them.
