Never flew one, nor owned one. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind I think I knew someone that had one many years ago. It is built like a brick shipyard. Very solid, and well made. IIRC they are a bit slow for the HP, but don't quote me on that. Not saying they are a slow plane, but maybe not as fast as some others with similar horsepower. Lots of variants, and nuances, so as others have said a Navion expert would help.
Wouldn't buying into the SNJ give you enough plane, or is this in addition to that. I'd take a T-6/SNJ any day, of course its a two place plane, however.

My friend who just lost his beautiful V35B was talking about getting an A36 prior to the recent hangar fire. I've been trying to talk him out of it, and told him just to get another V-Tail. It's just him, and his wife, no kids, so I don't know why he thinks he needs the extra seats. Hey, his money.

What she said was pretty much expected from a left winger who says the Constitution is still being written, or things to that effect. But this is apples and oranges. Big difference from having a suspected sexual predator sitting on the highest court. (Which Kavanaugh is NOT, and SHOULD NOT BE at this point, just to be clear.)
My point is, I am MUCH more concerned about an anti Constitutionalist on the bench where specifically they are there to uphold, and enforce the Constitution, more than if someone possibly played spin the bottle with a radical feminist 36 years ago.

^^^^^How about the "image" of Ruth Bader Ginsburg recommending countries not use the U.S. Constitution as a model? A Constitution she has sworn to uphold, and enforce. She would rather have a document that allows Government to GRANT rights rather than a document that acknowledges Natural Human Rights which are not to be infringed. Big difference.

My only problem with V-Tails is that they have an aft center of gravity and are easily put out of balance with big rear pax or a lot of cargo. They are great 3 seaters though. Since it is usually just my wife and me, we can load up a lot of luggage for long trips. We can put two small pax in the back, but then little to no luggage, and we might have to shed some fuel. But even shedding fuel pushes the CoG aft.
Yes, the W&B is the issue, and he doesn't have tip tanks either. Still, it is usually just him and his wife.

I said mph because it sounds better than equivalent knots. We topped out at around 186 kts (214 mph). but that was with about a 15kt tail wind at 8,000 ft.
V tails are one of the sexiest planes in the sky. I am lobbying my friend to get another one, but for some reason he thinks he needs six seats now. He really doesn't.

Nice trip! I've been to St. Simon's Island in the Tiger. Never hit 200 MPH even with a tail wind. Came close a few times.
