I find it unbelievable that the logo has a spinning small GA type aircraft, probably turning base to final, Way to start a forum with inflammatory
stereotypes! >:(

I am in.... Yippie... Thanks to whoever set this up... Altho I will probably only post in the "private section"

Looks like the turns are to the left to me.

When you turn to the left, if you don't correct, you will crash.

I like the logo. Thanks Jason! Hi fellow inmates!

Jeff- That's the dumbest joke you've made thus far, and you made a plenty ;D
....I figure let's dispense with all this niceness and get down to bidnezz.

My airplane, like my politics, naturally spins to the right.

I know I said I did not intend to join, and not sure how much I will participate or for how long but I am here at least for now.

I've heard that the retract gear on this airplane was not necessary for efficient flight just a training aid for pilots. The picture may bear this out. Looks like it retracts just enough for a prop strike. ;D

Good to see you here.

True - it is primarily for training value and brings only a small reduction in drag.
The prop is wood core covered in fiberglass and designed to shatter to prevent engine damage.
The Russian design is extremely clever, lots of other neat little details - for example, the landing gear overcenters are designed such that if one collapses it overloads the other two so they cannot collapse.
Also, the outboard aileron hinge bracket is mounted just low enough to keep wing structure from touching the ground if either main gear collapse.
The Yak is an amazing machine, love flying it.

Nice to see you, Gimp!
Question: can you log complex time if the gear sticks out like that? :D :D :D

Thanks!
Don't know about 'can' log, but I do. Seriously, it meets the definition so yes.

Anyone have Greg Clinbnsink's email? It would be good to have Greg back, his stuff made me laugh~!

Is there something wrong with the gear on your plane?

Is there something wrong with the gear on your plane?
Nothing wrong, functioning as designed. Prevent damage to fuselage in event of gear-up landing, but provides the learning opportunity as a primary/advanced trainer.

I really like hearing about your Yak, and the CJ-6's. Great info. I'd love to have one but doubt I can swing it, well maybe someday.

Prop and engine are toast, though.

Prop and engine are toast, though.
Prop yes, engine usually not.
Most engines show no damage after a prop strike on these because the prop is wood core and because we are running a reduction drive. The guys who overhaul a lot of the Vedenyev motors, M-14P.com in AZ have reported little to any damage in the prop strike inspections they have run.
Some folks have literally just replaced the prop and carried on as if nothing happened. I don't agree with that approach but the engine/prop combo like most of the rest of the plane shows a considerable of amount of typical Russian pragmatism in design.

Thank you for explaining that. I thought you were joking but see that you were not. I agree, based on what you stated that it is a well-thought out design.

When I was based at New Garden (N57) many years ago, a guy had a Yak that was tied down outside near me. He would come and start it every once in a while, but I never saw him fly it. Can't beat the sound of the radial.

Just curious, does the "report to moderator button" actually work? I have a list ... :D
