Pilot Zone / Re: Which is better: Low wing or High wing airplanes?

Jeez...there's a better solution to this than arguing the same thing over and over...
...
Just like Obamacare; take the worst parts of other options and mash them together.

unlike Obamacare, that aircraft actually serves a valuable purpose and isn't paid for with OPM.

MC probably shut it down in order to purge all the impure thoughts.

Maybe it isn't available to anyone still a member of the Spin Zone POA group...

iirc, at that time, not a lot of Catholics were being elected President.

Not my point.
....

the point being at the time the general population being Catholic was not something viewed as enhancing a candidate's viability.  So, he wouldn't have played up his catholic background.  IOW - that was a bad example to use.

'Tis a fact of life, faith in God.  Lots of good, competent people have it.  Doesn't make me uncomfortable.  Liars make me uncomfortable, though.  Don't think Rubio is lying.

It's not his faith that bothers me, nor makes me uncomfortable.

It's his putting it forth as a reason to elect him. Making an ad that does not go beyond touting his faith as a reason to elect him.

I recall John F. Kennedy was a Catholic as well. Maybe it's the times that have changed, but I don't remember ads from him about accepting Jesus Christ as his savior.

Just distasteful pandering, if you ask me.

And disappointing.

iirc, at that time, not a lot of Catholics were being elected President.

I too grumble about the "share the road" signs and the "watch for motorcycles" bumper stickers. We need bumper stickers that say- "Hey you on two wheels, stop being a selfish idiot!"

Yeah, "Share the road" doesn't mean "hog the road".... that is directed at the bicylist illitists that think the road belongs to them.

the whole "discretionary"/"Non-discretionary" thing is complete male cow feces.

Where in the Constitution is the distinction between discretionary and non-discretionary?  The spineless cowards in congress are just hiding behind something they could change by simple majority.

Will 2016 be another 2008 for the stock market?

http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/07/investing/stock-markets-2008-china/

So far this year, things aren't looking good.  I don't foresee a huge crash looming, but you never know.  But if the market does "pull another 2008", as the CNN article ponders, would the libs be as quick to blame Obama as they were GWB?

Looks like Bush had a longer impact than the idiots first thought!!!

And another thing...
why can't two motorcycles share a parking space rather than taking up two spaces.  I'm talking about when the two riders are together.

Everytime I leave the bike in a parking space, I'm concerned that some inattentive driver won't notice the bike and zip into the parking space.  So, one approach is to leave the bike just barely in the space, rather than parking as far forward as possible, trying to make it as obvious as possible that the space isn't empty.

But I understand the frustration.  When I first started riding, at work we ended up using two parking spaces for 5, even 6 motorcycles.  It was kind of an unwritten rule that those two spaces would be used for motorcycles and we wouldn't hog (no pun) other spaces.

Based on Dave8or's call for civil discussion, I thought I would pose the question above.  Personally, I feel we are in deep shit and need to do something to bring things back in line.  Do we need a balanced budget amendment?  Would that really do anything other than cause Congress to crank up revenues (taxes) to keep spending?  What are your ideas?  I'm a fan of the Fair Tax and at the very least feel the current system is so broken that it needs to be torn down and start over.

No, we don't need a balanced budget amendment.  But we do need Congresscritters to fulfill their responsibilties of the office.

And, yes, a BBA would likely cause Congress et al to raise tax rates (btw, that won't necessarily increase revenues).

We need leadership at the Federal level to convince our nation that the current approach of tax, spend, free stuff, OPM, etc will inevitably lead to disaster and that there are better ways to improve (or at least maintain) our standard of living.

As an aside, I'm on a couple of "skeptic's" forums*. They tend to lean liberal/left for whatever reason.

The hate and vitriol coming out on this issue is kind of depressing to me. I do not back the occupiers in any way, but comments about having them come out in body bags, even if in jest, is in terribly poor taste.

what?   liberals aren't all about love, happiness, and rainbows?

Spin Zone / Pedestrian and bicylist responsibility
« on: January 07, 2016, 07:37:13 AM »
I see in the local paper people wanting to require trucks to put side guards on trucks to prevent the truck from running over a bicylist when the truck takes a right turn.

How about also requiring bicylists to have training to avoid trying to pass a truck on the right when it's turning right?

In other words, the bicyclist needs to exercise some common sense instead of assuming everyone must avoid them no matter what stupid stunt they try to pull.

(and don't get me started about pedestrians that just walk into the street as if they have some magic force field around them)

I don't doubt that if President Obama got his way that there would be a lot more restrictions on guns, making them nearly impossible to get. Thankfully with the mass proliferation of guns in America, that's next to impossible at this point. Even after Sandy Hook and his push to pass that legislation, it failed. Taking away guns is something the American people don't want.

There certainly are people that want to take guns.

How did confiscation happen in the UK and Australia?

seems someone is ignoring how the Native Americans came to possess the land in the first place.

And I hope you aren't trying to justify the crap being done today because of stuff that happened centuries ago.

I believe to the best of science's ability, we believe that the Native Americans walked here from Africa tens of thousands of years ago and there were no humans here before them. What happened to the Native Americans is neither here nor there accept to illustrate that there has always been a contest between peoples for the control of lands, resources and ideas. There has always been the challenger an the challenged and in this contest, there has always been winners and losers. More often than not, religious beliefs help to justify the means of victory.

And when the Native Americans walked here from Africa, they settled in one place and various tribes never moved from area to area?

The point being that for millennia people(s) have been moving from area to area.
