The world's basket cases typically will automatically vote for free stuff.
Let's not kid ourselves, this whole push for open borders serves two purposes. First and foremost, it gives the democrats (perceived) another voting block. Just look at California and the millions of illegals living and working there, and also voting.
Second, it fills the void for low pay cash under the table workers that many republicans enjoy. Those republicans see a trade off, cheap labor vs losing majority.

I take that as a sign that they are very pessimistic about 2020, and understand what it would mean if Donald Trump DID win the popular vote - all these liberal states that passed the EC bypass laws would see THEIR EVs go to Trump.
After Tuesday’s debate I saw a focus group discussion on some channel (not FOX) and when Democrat voters were asked if they thought that a democrat would win in 2020, only one member of the group raised their hands. The rest looked like someone just ran over the cat that they live with in their mom’s basement. It was epic.

I think you may be right. Not a word lately about the EC. However, they are still winning the battle of brining in ILLEGAL ALIENS who steal Social Security numbers in order to get Driver's Licenses, Welfare Benefits, Healthcare, Education, and they VOTE. This will turn states like Texas, and Florida BLUE if it continues.
It's already happened in Colorado. I saw it when I lived there. When getting my CO license, I saw hundreds of non English speaking Hispanics getting Driver's Licenses, and no way they could be here legally. CO is now solid Democrat, and it's not just due to the Progressive White Guilt "woke" crowd on the Front Range around Denver.
They won't need to abolish the EC. Just get enough illegals here voting for more Free Stuff.

Almost 50% of people pay NO Federal Income Tax. That should be an indicator of where we are.
