Reid is setting up the Senate for Schumer to use the nuclear option for judicial votes, requiring only a simple majority.

The ONLY thing that will stop Hillary and the democrats from WEAPONIZING the courts and especially the USSC is a president Trump. Sad to say, but true.
Conservative speech? Gone after Citizens United is overturned.
Second Amendment? Not after one new Justice is added who agrees with the Heller dissent that the RKBA is NOT an individual right.
And on and on.
Depressing as hell.

Think that Reid is going the wrong way on this. SCOTUS judges should have the 60 vote hurdle.

It doesn't surprise me the democrats would do this. I don't expect them to act like ladies and gentlemen anymore and have respect for how our system is built. After Obama was elected, that all went out the window. We've entered an era in the American system where it's filled with contempt and disgust for the other party and personal profit and power reign supreme over what's best for the country or the respect for the rule of law.

I don't disagree that a lot of this is possible, but the courts would have to fast track cases to the SCOTUS for them to hear them. The SCOTUS doesn't overturn its rulings very often so I'm not sure how quickly this would happen.

That assumes that the republicans will actually try something like that. The Senate republicans have been less than productive at stopping anything President Obama has done.

Why? There is nothing in the Constitution which requires it. Why is 60 a magic number?
You might see a surprise if Obama appoints a Justice by recess appt. Legally he could and there would be nothing anyone could do.

If Hillary wins Obama will rescind his nomination of Judge Garland and allow Hillary the ability to nominate someone of her choosing, giving the republicans "exactly what they wanted". If Trump wins, it would be pointless for Obama to do a recess appointment because Trump's transition team will immediately begin vetting nominees and make an announcement as soon as he's sworn in. While the SCOTUS will still hear cases early in the year, none of them (that I know of) are 2nd Amendment cases (not that the others aren't important).

Why do you say that? Hillary has no control over the Supreme Court and whether or not they grant certiorari. It only takes 4 justices to grant certiorari but I'm not sure the court would say no strictly because the timing was inconvenient for Hillary.

True, but it would be in poor taste for Obama to pull a stunt like that. I wouldn't put it past him, but I don't think he would. He's done it with lower courts, most notably the NLRB and got smacked for it.
