2 terms for Senators, 3 terms for Congresscritters.
I like it.
This is a part of draining the swamp and is long, long overdue - the only drawback is that it actually potentially increases the power and influence of the policy wonks and apparatchiks operating behind the scenes and in the various Federal buildings - they need term limits too IMO.

I hope it gets a vote so we can see who the enemy is. ;)

It's about time. I don't want politicians to get too good at being politicians.
-
I used to really be in favor of this sort of thing, but not so much anymore. My question is simple, who shows all those newly elected Congresspeople what to do? They certainly don't know beforehand, since they've never done it before. Right now there are plenty of experienced people to show them how. But with a system of term limits, the number of experienced people will dwindle. However, lobbyists and those representing special interests will be more than happy to educate the newly elected.

Get rid of lobbyists, too. That was, as I recall, discussed by Trump during the campaign.
And get out of here about "experience." A two-week, side-by-side orientation by the outgoing people would suffice. Or even less. The whole idea is to stop calling entrenchment and self-serving "experience."
-
Not everyone gets replaced at the same time, it would be staggered much as it works in the senate now. A two term Senator would have been in office 12 years.
And congress could actually have people in their third term helping the incoming new congressmen.
Congress was never meant to be a career position, neither was the senate.

GOOD!!! Why do these career politicians all get RICH WHILE IN OFFICE? I don't want experienced politicians. I want CITIZENS.

What does 20 or more years of "experience" make these guys better at? Does their idealism increase? Do they build more energy to get things done?
Or do they learn about who pays the best bribes, and how to get the plum committee assignments?
If someone has the ability to run a successful campaign at that level, they obviously have some political savvy. I don't see how we could do any worse with term limits than without.

Wait a second, I thought we already have term limits? Aren't those called "elections"?

If you want to fire someone from elected office, run against him or her. Forcing term limits only serves special interests. Watch and see.

Are you really that naïve? How old are you? You do understand the incredible advantage incumbents have to get re-elected, right?

How do term limits serve special interests?

If they are doing a bad job, there isn't much of an advantage. 2010 saw to that.

You really didn't do well in Civics class did you? Or American history?
Which "special interest" was served by implementing the 22cd amendment?
-
My only concern is that a revolving door of Congressional oversight would shift power to the perpetual bureaucracy.

^^This and MarkZ's point about empowering the special interests are the primary potential issues with this approach, you can regulate the influence peddling and special interests to a point but the permanent apparatchik class is the real threat IMO.

Yeah, that's the same argument I have been hearing for 40 years or more. Elections do not work as term limits because everyone wants to get rid of all the other crooks, but keep their own crooks in power.

That's essentially what has happened in California. In our case we have a single-party revolving door of rookie politicians. The results have been disastrous.

You're saying that we cannot have new Congressmen because they will be corrupted with bribery. If only there was an independent ethics office that could educate the incoming congressmen on what constitutes bribery when dealing with lobbyists. And with their party.
I believe the benefits of short term service outweighs potential drawbacks.

It's not the rookies that are the problem. It is the SINGLE PARTY DEMOCRAT system that controls all branches of government, and the judiciary.

Then you would make a case that we should have a ruling elite who tells the rest of us what laws we should live by? Because only they are smart enough to know better?

That works great in one-party states. Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Boss...

Just about every State house has either a republican legislature, governor, or both. Down South its mostly a one-party system with the GOP firmly in charge.

38 states have Republican Governors. The Democrats, and the lying media have done a nice job of alienating many thinking Americans, and people that actually work for a living outside of major metro regions like around NYC, and L.A.

Wait a second, weren't the Republicans worried all elections are rigged and riddled with fraud?

They were! That is why Trump's election is a miracle. 8)
Democrats and their operatives have been rigging for decades. This election, HRC got more votes than mathematically possible in 37% (248) of the precincts in Detroit. This was likely the case in other liberal bastions as well. Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe granted voting rights to 60,000+ felons to swing the vote in favor of Hillary, and Democrats were caught destroying or changing ballots for Trump. The probability that illegals cast votes in the millions is high, due to Dems giving them ID and drivers licenses that pass as ballot worthy. And so on.
Why do you think they were so sure they would win?

Yes, and I have witnessed personally in a large inner city. This is where it mostly happens not free America outside of metro areas.

Hmmm. I always wondered why Democrats tended to win more in large, inner cities.
-
So, when Republicans win it's because freedom and smart productive citizens? When Democrats win it's because fraud and stupid freeloading parasites?
Based off this logic, and th current makeup of the federal houses as well as most state houses, I would think most of the conservatives here would prefer not having term limits.
Does any state legislature enforce term limits? Anyone know how that's working out?
