WASHINGTON — Saudi Arabia has told the Obama administration and members of Congress that it will sell off hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of American assets held by the kingdom if Congress passes a bill that would allow the Saudi government to be held responsible in American courts for any role in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

I don't know whether Congress should make any declarations, other than publishing the report.  If it pisses off the Saudi, too bad for the Saudi's.  We need truth.

How would it hurt us more than them if they sell their American assets?

We apparently just sent them nine Guantanamo detainees, for whatever that's worth.

How about we just stop selling them spare parts for the F15s we've sold them?

This is the beauty of fracking and energy independence. We can actually seriously contemplate calling out our drug dealer on their underhanded bull crap. I say pass the bill and let the chips fall where they may. The Saudis are not our friends. Just look at the way they treat their own people. Is that even close to the American way?

That says it all.

Another reason why the current adnimistration's assault on the US coal industry is so wrong.  Energy independence makes the Saudi royal family more and more insignificant.  They have never paid their share of the cost of military efforts in the Middle East, even though they have benefited as much if not more from U.S. efforts than any country in the region.

Interestingly lots of new developments have been happening surrounding the question of responsibility for 9/11.

I'm seeing things about known actors in the US UK and Israel that the Bush (and Obama) administration wanted to keep quiet. If this is true, I would suspect this is why Obama came into office claiming immunity for Bush administration officials on their handling of Extraordinary Rendition and Enhanced Interrogation techniques.

It appears that the House of Saud has begun to seriously lose their hold on the people of Saudi Arabia, and a melt down might mean another Iran in the region. I am NOT supporting suppressing the truth, but I can see how another Iraq balls up could endanger everybody, the US and Israel the most.

It is stunning that the Saudis threatened the US, and our POTUS is getting on a plane to meet with them.  A real man would say "fuck you, call me when you grow up" and let them sit on that.

Bowing to the saudis "royalty" is better performed in person....

You're kidding?!!!  I've never visited (yet) but from what I hear, the Government is very repressive of the citizenry.

Unfortunately we no longer have said real man as POTUS.

Then you are not paying attention, but reading headlines, instead. The systematic repression has become more visible, but that is very often a symptom of the restlessness of those being repressed.

Perhaps I'm not paying attention. There is ALWAYS an end to tyranny, ALWAYS. Unfortunately it dies hard.

When the Saudi Family rule is ended, what will take it's place?
Will it be better?   Doubtful.
Will it be worse?   Undoubtedly; much worse.

Without a sound plan for what comes next, Saudi Arabia becomes another Iraq and Syria.
America is much better at winning wars, than winning the peace that comes after.

What are you talking about?  Look at how much better Libya is now that Hillary and Obama deposed Muammar Gaddafi?
