Title: CALIFORNIA: Where Intelligence and Logic Go To Die
Post by: Number7 on January 15, 2018, 01:06:49 PM
Two Headlines:

You see California is so poorly run that roughly 20% of the population (highest percentage for a state in the country) is living in poverty, and where homelessness is rampant, are so proud of their incompetence, that they make FEEDING hungry people a crime.

STUPID doesn't begin to describe the government officials involved in these failures. Which also explains why it is happening in California.

What's wrong with California is summed up in these two articles.

What's the Matter with California?
Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, Where Nearly One Out Of Five Residents Is Poor. That’s according to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes non cash government assistance as a form of income.

About a Dozen People Arrested for Feeding the Homeless in El Cajon Park
El Cajon police officers arrested about a dozen people for feeding the homeless at a city park Sunday afternoon.

Then again, maybe our lovely FedGuv can learn a thing or two from California, given that they turned a $27B deficit into a projected $6.1B budget surplus.

Never mind that 800 pound gorilla sitting in the room to the tune of $1.3 Trillion of unfunded liabilities.

You're lumping a bunch of things under that phrase. I believe $1.3T is a total debt number. But anyway, my point stands. The FedGuv could learn "a thing or two", not all things.

Sorry, the only thing to "learn" from the fucking disaster that is the state of California is not be like them.

MAYBE the wonderful administrators of teh budget in California can explain why their bookkeeping skills are so goo that they are pondering stealing pension funds to make up their shortfalls.

Stupid doesn't begin to explain their stewardship of public funds.

You do NOT want California to export our approach to Government on a FedGov scale, unless of course you want to live subject to a non-functional single-party supermajority that is taxing its' citizen's to death, driving businesses (and high net worth individuals) to leave, and that prioritizes illegal aliens OVER natural-born and naturalized citizens.

Do you want to be arrested for feeding the homeless or setting up a lemonade stand for your kids in your front yard?

Do you want to be fined for collecting rainwater on your own land?

Do you want to pay double your current rent or mortgage?

Do you want to pay $3.50/gallon for gas?

Do you want to see hundreds of thousands of working class employees lose their jobs to unsupportable minimum wage changes?

Do you want to deal with the dangers of the closest approach to direct democracy where the mob rules?

California is a failed super-state, Governor Moonbeam's tax-grabs are temporary (combined with bookkeeping tricks) that will eventually kill the golden goose and when all of us who start and run businesses leave it will collapse into a chaotic post-apocalyptic morass that will rival the most dystopian movie or video game you have ever seen.

I have suffered as a completely unrepresented political minority in California for 9 years and would not wish it on the most deserving snowflake or leftist idealogue, it is non-functional and unsupportable but the simple size of California brings it a level of inertia and undeserved gravitas that most folks don't understand in my opinion, they won't, until the wheels come off.

There is a second separatist movement in California, attempting to take the non coastal - non urban counties into a fifty-first state.
It is hilarious to listen to people in the shit hole counties, proclaiming the sanctity of 'One California,' because they can't imagine not stealing from those who actually produce something.

Take the agricultural counties out of California and into a new state, and you will watch Moonbeam an company take their state into something resembling an outtake from Escape from LA.

More, and more it is making sense to divide this country urban vs rural, at least politically.  Trump was elected because people outside of Metro Areas came out, and voted.  In my area, the four counties surrounding Philly all went for Hillary, including mine, and I live 38 miles northwest of the city.  It used to be solid Republican but is now purple.  The other three suburban counties are pretty much Democrat now.  They used to be all Republican, but as people have left the city, they brought their Dem ways with them.  Also, we've seen an influx of people from NY, and NJ who moved to escape the high taxes, and high COL, and brought their Dem ways with them.

Oh, they will love him as much as they hated Christie 2nd term, and hate Trump.  I will grant you, he is a whack job.

Has that passed the legislature yet or is it still just a proposal?  I have seen lots of proposals...

I’m not sure about that. California only has a partially funded pension system for state employees. I guarantee you that the unfounded pension liability is not factored in when you compute their “surplus.”

Wisconsin is the only state in the union, I believe, that now has a fully funded pension system.
