Spin Zone / Re: Removing McCarthy as speaker?

Just saw that, wonder what changed?

First thing that changed was Mike Rogers got exposed.  I'm sure a large group of his constituents won't appreciate him voting and supporting more Ukraine money knowing he's backed by a big Ukraine lobbyist.

Second, apparently Jordan and him made an agreement.  What it is, we'll have to wait and see.

A Top Advisor To Rep. Mike Rogers – Who’s Blocking Jim Jordan’s Speakership – Is A Lobbyist For The Ukraine Government.

Quote
Why is Rep. Mike Rogers so opposed to the prospect of a Speaker Jim Jordan? Even pledging to “work with Democrats” to stop the Trump-endorsed candidate?

In short: Rep. Rogers, the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is bought and paid for by the defense industry.

He was the top recipient of weapons industry contributions in the 2022 election cycle, at a hefty figure of over $440,000. Some of his top contributors include Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and L3Harris Technologies.

Forbes even called him the “Arms Industry’s Dream Representative.” The same industry that desperately wants aid to Ukraine to continue.

What’s more, his former decade-long Chief of Staff, Senior Advisor, and Legislative Director “handling all national security policy issues” Andy Keiser departed Rep. Rogers office to become a lobbyist at Navigators Global LLC.

A Senior Principal at the firm since 2017, Navigator Global LLC is a registered lobbyist on behalf of the Ukrainian government as of April 2022. Keiser’s firm represents the “Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine” providing “government relations consulting, public advocacy and education.”

Among the Ukrainians Navigators Global LLC is working on behalf of are Chairman of the Subcommittee on Defense Industry and Technical Modernization and Chairman of the Subcommittee of National Security and Defense.

A letter outlining the agreement details how the Ukrainian foreign agent “require your efforts to educate and advocate to United States policymakers in the U.S. Congress and in the Biden Administration on the critical needs of our country as a result of the Russian invasion to Ukraine.”

Specifically, the Ukrainian Parliament wanted “assistance during this conflict to further educate and advocate to key members of the U.S. Congress and the Biden Administration on our war and humanitarian requirements.”

“Please establish appropriate contact with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate defense and foreign relations committees and U.S. Congressional leadership as requested. Please also establish appropriate contact with Biden Administration officials. As possible, the Committee will also provide members of Ukraine parliament and other Ukraine officials for video or telephonic calls to augment your efforts. We are also pleased that you may be utilizing former military experts in the region to validate the requirements presented.”

“Last, please establish a robust public affairs campaign to focus on the critical needs of Ukraine to reach key U.S officials and stakeholders in the United States and beyond as necessary,” continued the letter.

In other words: Rep. Rogers’s old Chief of Staff is now lobbying his old boss to give more money to Ukraine.

Conveniently for Navigators Global LLC, Rep. Rogers led the Congressional Delegation tasked with “conducting oversight of the U.S. aid being sent to Ukraine.”

Despite massive evidence of money laundering and improper use of funds, Rep. Rogers said the trip left him “confident” in U.S. aid packages to the notoriously corrupt country.

“We came away with a clear understanding of the various safeguards the U.S. government, in partnership with the Ukrainians and other nations, have put in place to ensure each article is accounted for and tracked to the frontline of the war,” he remarked.

The trip comes after his track record of repeatedly pushing for more aid to Ukraine – and lamenting to the mainstream media about his colleagues who feel otherwise.

With Republicans like this, who even needs Democrats? Well, apparently Rep. Rogers does.

The Governor signed an executive order on Thursday that enables the Florida Division of Emergency Management to bring Floridians home and transport supplies out to Israel. They. estimate some 20,000 U.S. citizens, including Floridians, are stranded in Israel.

The executive order directs the Flordia Division of Emergency Management to charter flights for Americans trying to get home. It also states, “There are more than 20,000 Americans, including Floridians in Israel who wish to return home but are unable to do so. The executive order allows the State of Floria to carry out logistical, rescue, and evacuation operations to keep its residents safe.”

Spin Zone / Re: mRNA Shots Linked To 17 Million Sudden Deaths
« on: October 15, 2023, 08:50:35 AM »
Before the scamdemic, if a vaccine killed 50 people it was removed immediately.

And if these so called vaccines were "safe and effective" then the manufacturers would have no trouble defending them, nor would they have done so much in secrecy that they have tried to hide from the public.

“Safe and effective” is never 100% either safe nor effective but it’s a trade off.  Let’s say you have a vaccine that is 99% effective preventing you from getting a disease that has a 1 in 3 death rate, but the vaccine has a 1 in a million chance of killing you.  That would be a no brainer. You’d be a fool not to get the vaccine.

But if the vaccine is only 50% effective in preventing a disease that only has a 1% fatality rate and the vaccine has a 1 in 100 chance of killing you, that’s a completely different scenario.  You probably shouldn’t get it, or at least dig more into the facts to see if the fatalities are skewed into certain demographics.  Example:  Covid the disease mostly kills old people while the Covid vax mostly kills young people.  Learn the numbers for your demographic then make a decision.

One of the problems I have is when they tell you it’s “safe and effective” they don’t give you honest information about these statistics.  I don’t have problems with vaccines per se, even the Covid one.  I have big problems with government agencies and corporate entities obfuscating information when a political and profit agenda is involved.

I want the bare facts. The truth. Once I feel like they’re playing us, they lose all credibility.  That doesn’t mean I suddenly think the vax is 0% effective and 100% deadly.  It does mean I mistrust everything anyone tells me.  Once something is in two polarized camps it becomes difficult to find truly objective information.

Isn't "rational trans" an oxymoron, sort of like jumbo shrimp or military intelligence?

Not at all. Rational trans understand reality.  They know they have the XX or the XY respectively and that that determines basic physiology. Therefore they understand, for example, that allowing trans “women” to compete in women’s sports is completely unfair.

The problem is those people aren’t highlighted by the media so you don’t hear from them very often. What is shoved in our faces all the time are the crazies, so we think all trans are completely off their rocker.  There are trans who say, “My gender dysphoria is a mental disorder.  I acknowledge that.  That doesn’t make it go away but it means I can deal with it understanding that my feelings of being the opposite gender do not change the fact that I am in reality my birth sex.”  That’s rational. I watched an interview of a female to male trans who said exactly that.  But you don’t see this person show up in your social media feed, you have to go search for it.

Media and social media echo chambers make it hard to see nuance.

Rusty & Student Pilots / Re: Accelerated Instrument vs. regular
« on: October 11, 2023, 07:23:33 AM »
Started my instrument (re)training yesterday.  1.2 under the hood.  After 20 years things came back pretty quickly.  Documented the pitch / power settings for various climbs and descents.  Then progressed to some rapid-fire altitude and/or heading changes.  Glass is SO much easier to fly with than the old six-pack.  But even so I'm glad I have the analog altitude and rate of climb indicators for quick reference.  I still have to work on rapid interpretation and finding what I need to see quickly.  Then not fixating.  The heading and altitude bugs are super helpful.  The 170 is less stable than a 172 so changing altitude / heading while programming the GPS means things go wonky in a hurry.  Next flight in a week.  Looking forward to it!

DeSantis should have made a deal to be Trump's VP running mate.

That was a real possibility early on and looked good. It’s too late now. Too much water under the bridge.

DeSantis should have supported President Trump, then waited his turn. He’s out of the natural order. In the fullness of time he would have been good. Probably not great, but good.

Two losers thinking they’re still relevant. Those pompous idiots and others like them are why our country is sliding into hell. They don’t lead, they serve themselves not Americans, they don’t fight back against the rot. Money grubbing  egotistical snakes.

It is, and always will be, Columbus Day — and should be acknowledged as such....

Today is Columbus Day; it is not Indigenous People’s Day. It is not any other day left-wing cultural assassins want to make it. Despite these radicals’ attempts to reshape our nation’s culture to align with their values and beliefs, the second Monday in October is, and will always be, the holiday recognized to celebrate the achievements of Christopher Columbus.

So what are you saying?  Should we just give up on nuclear?

No!!!  We need to ramp up nuclear but we obstruct it with government interference. Government needs to overhaul its regulatory grip on it and just let the marketplace do its thing but good luck with that.

In the meantime we need to open up fossil fuel again. Quit with the war against coal and oil. Stop shutting down coal plants. Increase the use of natural gas. Opening up our own fossil industry will bring prices back down and we need to resupply the strategic oil reserves. Depleting that is one of more egregious things that old man did. All of that can be done in a year or two if we get DJT back in the White House. God, we desperately need him.

And our grid needs to be secured much better, it's too vulnerable.

I’m sitting on a cruise ship in Cyprus right now.

Was supposed to be day two of three in Israel, obviously the cruise line has been scrambling to make changes.

They have now cancelled Egypt as well.  According to the captain an Israeli tourist was shot by an Egyptian cop.  Haven’t found anything in the next about that, but haven’t look too hard.

Really sad to be missing both countries, but that is nothing compared to the Israeli’s  Had to cancel our tours, and the responses from the tour guides was heart breaking….

-Dan

I saw something about that incident in Egypt.  Sounds like the Captain and cruise line are making good decisions. Stay safe.
