Yes, American airports suck when compared to others around the world.  And US airlines, while having an admirable safety record, are really second class (and lower) when compared to some international carriers.

Some airports that come to mind is Singapore Changi and South Korea Incheon as well as Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.

LAX, ATL, JFK, ORD, MIA, DFW, SFO, etc make transiting them not a pleasurable experience.

Is he complaining about the terminal and passenger accomodations or the airport runways, etc?

I'd be surpised if the US airport runways and taxiways are particularly bad.

Since the advent of TSA, of course the passenger accomodations really bite.

But I would be stunned if the GA environment in other countries is better than here in the US.  Fuel is readily available, yes?  Airports for bugsmashers are everywhere (except close to the largest cities)

He's talking about the passenger terminals. Of course ours are among the oldest and in a lot of cases no money has been spent to keep them "modern".
