The controversy over the selective editing of a voicemail message from President Trump’s former attorney in the report by Robert Mueller has added fuel to the arguments against the appointment of special counsels.

The Mueller report says that attorney John Dowd reached out to Robert Kelner, Gen. Michael Flynn’s lawyer, after Flynn withdrew from a joint defense agreement with the Trump legal team and asked Kelner to give him a “heads up.” The report characterized the voicemail message as an attempt by the president’s counsel to obstruct Flynn’s cooperation with the Mueller probe, and that’s also how much of the press reported on it.

Here’s what the report said: “On November 22, 2017,” — after Flynn withdrew from the joint defense agreement he had with President Trump — “the President’s personal counsel left a voicemail for Flynn’s counsel that said: ‘I understand your situation, but let me see if I can’t state it in starker terms … t wouldn’t surprise me if you’ve gone on to make a deal with … the government … f … there’s information that implicates the President, then we’ve got a national security issue … so, you know … we need some kind of heads up. Umn, just for the sake of protecting all our interests if we can … [R]emember what we’ve always said about the President and his feelings toward Flynn and, that still remains …'”

“On November 23, 2017, Flynn’s attorneys returned the call from the President’s personal counsel to acknowledge receipt of the voicemail. Flynn’s attorney reiterated that they were no longer in a position to share information under any sort of privilege. According to Flynn’s attorneys, the President’s personal counsel was indignant and vocal in his disagreement. The President’s personal counsel said that he interpreted what they said to him as a reflection of Flynn’s hostility towards the President and that he planned to inform his client of that interpretation.” (Mueller Report, Vol. 2, p. 121-122)

Why are lawyers’ conversations between each other being recorded in the first place?

It was a voicemail.  And Mueller and company was turning over any and every rock in dire hopes of finding something.   When they didn't find what they wanted, they merely edited a voicemail to get what they wanted.

BTW, this method has Weismann's finger prints all over it.

What is wrong with me? A voicemail IS a recording. What I meant to say was, why are lawyers’ private voicemails being appropriated in the investigation? But I found the answer: Flynn turned over the voicemail in his plea deal. Mueller was using Flynn to try to get to Trump, I knew that but didn’t know this particular detail.

Flynn was set up, that’s obvious.  Flynn was also coerced into a guilty plea.

This is such a travesty of justice, pure third world banana republic tactics.  His life, career and reputation have been destroyed by an over zealous prosecutor with blind ambition.
