Spin Zone / How about Kasich?
« on: March 09, 2016, 06:46:13 PM »
This might be the kiss of death, because every time I decided I liked a particular Republican candidate, they dropped out a few days later.

But now I have decided I want Kasich to win.  The biggest knock I hear about him is that "he doesn't have a chance".  That is the definition of a self-fulfilling prophesy.

But I truly think that Trump, Cruz and Rubio (who I thought I would be supporting) are all making a mockery out of the process.  Even though I like a lot of what each of them say, they have all proven to me that they are unqualified for the job of CIC.

So honestly, if you were to discard your current first choice among the contenders, who would be your second choice?

But regardless of what I think of any of them, I think that any of them would be better than Hillary or Sanders.

Or a fallible human that made one grievous mistake.
Nope.  She was an idiot that made a grievous mistake.  I hope she learned from it.

I like some of the new functionality.  I don't like the graphic presentation.

And as far as that thread "bashing" this site; The most valid point in that regard was the name calling of Mari as being a dyke.  Even if it is true; so what?

« on: March 09, 2016, 04:40:07 PM »
Well, I was talking about the deficit, sorry... US budget deficit, so I thought it kind of obvious that it would be about raising tax revenue. There are differing ways to raise tax revenue and among them is raising tax rates. It is likely that any real solution would incorporate raising tax rates as well as a host of other schemes. We have a lot of debt to pay down.
There are a lot schemes we can use to cut the deficit.  But first among them is to reduce deficit spending.

As they say, "When you are trying to get yourself out of a hole, the first thing you have to do is stop digging".

"raise taxes" - is that raise tax rates or increase tax revenue?
Thanks, you saved me the trouble of stating that obvious factoid.

Do liberals think that if they double the tax rate that they will double the Revenue?

If not, then they have to acknowledge the elasticity of the tax effect.  And if they acknowledge that, then they have to acknowledge that raising taxes isn't always the answer.

No matter what you do to businesses, (eg: raising taxes, raising labor rates, raising other expenses, adding additional regulations and restrictions) businesses will always adjust in ways that were not intended, and the public is usually the loser.

No, not everything, but we do have a hand in ISIS.
Please explain why you think "we" created ISIS.  And please be specific as to who "we" is, because I don't think I had much of a hand in it.

Well for one, that's sensationalism in media. Yes the B-52 is nuclear capable, but it doesn't guarantee that it will be carrying nukes.

And that's not what BUFF stands for- LoL
I think everyone knows that "Fellow" is a "cleaned up for polite society" to refer to the common colloquialism.

We're not Likely to agree on this: Taken over a long view, there is still a net gain. Sure they had to return some items they were accustomed to having but it's not a loss. We all come into the world naked and broke and that's the way we leave it. As long as I have all my body parts, I'm good to go!
I guess it depends on how you define certain words.

I know people that invested their life savings in a business.  They made a little money for a while, then when the economy turned, they lost everything and wound up still owing money to creditors.

Do you really consider the only lost to be body parts or your life?
Wow.

I wonder how many of the "moderate democrats" are simply trying to poison the Republican process?
That's a possibility.

But I know quite a few Democrats that plan to vote for Trump in the election, but can't vote for him in the primary unless they change party affiliations, and they aren't ready to do that.  They just don't want to vote for Hillary or Bernie.

And they all puke at the thought of Cruz.  They view him as an uncompromising religious zealot.

People say that crap all the time and never act on it, but in this case I can very much sympathize with the sentiment. I just can't think of a country in the world I would want to go to.
That's why I'm still here after '08 & '12.

We did learn that, which is interesting. Even with respect to immigration.

Trump fans, what day you?
I'm not necessarily a Trump fan, but I agree that a certain amount of flexibility is necessary.  But there is a difference between flexibility and malleability.

Depends on the instructor. And no boob remarks, you louts!! :D
My wife and I take a "gentle yoga" class at the gym.  I think it really does help flexibility.  Little things like crawling under my desk to trace computer wires are no longer as daunting as a task as they were.  I'm 64 yrs old.

But some of the moves the instructor makes just seems impossible to follow.  But that gorgeous young tight body of hers seems a lot more willing to go into some of those positions than my worn out body is capable of.   See, no boobs mentioned. (oops).  But hers, though small, are awesome in that yoga outfit.  And I gotta say, it does make the class more interesting.

I'm liking the Ohio dude. I won't butcher the spelling of his name.
I was thinking the same thing.
They all said things that I liked, but Kasich is the only one that didn't keep saying things I didn't like.
But I could easily support any of them over Hillary or Sanders.
