The "New Green Deal" is nothing more than a distraction, and it's working remarkably well.
First off, it's a trial balloon. Float it out there and see if anything takes off. Use that info for 2020.
Second, it detracts from the Border Fence issue. The progressives are losing that fight with the President and the public.
Third, the "Trump-Russia" hoax is collapsing. All indications are the "Mueller Report" will be anti climatic and not provide the progressives with what they were after, which was to remove the President.
Pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

Burglars can break windows and pick locks. But I still have locks on my front door to try to at least slow them down a little. It gives me time to grab a baseball bat or something.
But that wasn't the point of this thread. The point was that if we let little Alexandria ruin our economy with her naive, idealistic, socialistic ways, we won't have to worry about illegals trying to sneak in any more. There won't be anything here for them to come after.

Walls are more humane. They'll funnel people toward entry points where they can apply for asylum and be processed, rather than just cross an undefended border and wander around lost until they die of dehydration. I cannot believe you people who think we should just leave the borders open and undefended. What is wrong with you?

Well, other than that caravan thing, which is camped in Tijuana instead of San Diego. That one it slowed down pretty well.
However, the fence...they just ran a truck right through that one.

Our technology is sightly (well, greatly) more advanced than that of 500 years ago.
The wall (or fence) in today's border has regular patrols, both ground and air, and drone surveillance. There are multitude of cameras as well as listening devices, and few other pieces of classified material that monitor the wall (fence).
What the wall (fence) does serve as a barrier to slow down the law breakers who choose to breach them. With the technology currently in use as they are trying to breach the barrier it typically gives LE time to respond.
And we have many large expanses that lack adequate barriers, and rely on the air/ground network to track illegal activity. Of course with no barrier they move more quickly through these areas, usually before LE can get to them.
Thus, the President has identified the problem (just as Bush 41, Bush 43, Clinton and Obama have done) but this President has decided to act on it, rather than just give a speech about it.

No, I want solutions that actually work. Walls do work it there are lots of eyes on them. They don't do squat in the middle of nowhere, which is a succinct definition of our southern border.

What's the saying: "Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good"?
We have been demanding some sort of solution for decades. We have been promised action. Trump is the first President that is actually trying to do something about it, but people like you don't want his solution because it may not be the perfect solution.
I say, build the damn wall. Then if we see they are tunneling under or climbing over or going around, then we fortify it against those things. But let's at least get started on something before they turn this country into the same shithole they trying to escape from.
If we would step up to the plate and implement e-verify,
If we would stop granting citizenship to whole families that have anchor babies,
If we would stop giving illegal immigrants tax payer funded benefits,
If we would . . .
THEN we might be able to do without the wall. But we won't do those things and we won't build the damn wall either.

Let's be clear about this. The only objection to the border wall (fence) is purely political, nothing more. Had BHO actually followed through like he claimed he would, there would have been no objections, only praise.
