Sad, just saw this. :(

That is very sad. I really respected the man.
And you nailed it:

His diagnosis came less than two weeks after he attended President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cain, who co-chaired Black Voices for Trump, tweeted a photo of himself without a mask at the event, which was attended by several thousand people.

I doubt he died because he wasn't wearing a mask.
I think he died because somebody else wasn't wearing a mask.

He died because he was old and his body and immune system was severely weakened and compromised by chemo and other cancer treatments over his long battle with cancer. Most likely nothing to do with mask or no mask.

and he contracted COVID[/b]. He most likely would be alive today if he had not contracted COVID from someone that most likely wasn't wearing a mask.
I'm old and I have high blood pressure. Even though I'm not scared of dying, and I don't really care, but if I can keep from dying by asking others to wear a mask I will. Even Trump is now saying it is patriotic to wear a mask.

And the Flu or a myriad of other viruses or bacterial infections could have done the same thing. Masks are not a panacea, nor even effective according the many of the so called experts and that changes daily. Maybe he should have self isolated as he was at risk and taken other precautions due to his weakened state and age.
I have no problem with you nor anyone else wearing a mask and I do so regularly as all businesses and stores require it today.

you can think that if you wish. The fact of the matter is that a mask is better at protecting the wearer than stopping transmission.

I really don't think that's the case, unless you are talking about bio-hazard rated masks. And even they only protect from inhaled particles.

"Principal Findings
All types of masks reduced aerosol exposure, relatively stable over time, unaffected by duration of wear or type of activity, but with a high degree of individual variation. Personal respirators were more efficient than surgical masks, which were more efficient than home-made masks. Regardless of mask type, children were less well protected. Outward protection (mask wearing by a mechanical head) was less effective than inward protection (mask wearing by healthy volunteers)."

Wisconsin’s pussy governor announced a mask mandate effective 00:01 tomorrow. Ordinarily I wouldn’t give two shits but my firm is following the unlawful mandate and I need to wear one in my building until I’m in my office. Bought these tonight.

Just saw the Governor of NJ, another Communist control freak, vehemently admonishing people for gathering in groups and not wearing masks when they are out of their homes. Total asshole. No, I will not wear a mask when I take a walk or bike ride all alone, or when I am doing stuff in the yard, or anywhere else I don't have to or have people around like in stores. Our Governor said essentially the same thing. >:(
-
Yup, now the government control is about wearing masks.
What's next?

I hope yours is bigger than the one my wife bought me a few years ago, or that your head is smaller than mine. The one she bought was so tight it squashed my nose, mouth and ears.
Our local sheriff, who was a critic of the mask mandate was just reported as having COVID and will be self-quarantining for 14 days. In the meantime, we have a Cat 2 hurricane bearing down on us.

It's about demoralization, chaos and creating divisiveness. It's also a way to keep the scamdemic going well into November.
Come the end of October, when early voting starts, the battle cry will be to limit polling places and make the remaining ones "safe". This means social distancing lines, and booth cleaning after each vote. This will create extremely long lines and hours of waiting to vote, which in turn will suppress voting. Also, at the end of September/Early October the MSM will start pounding more Covid fear in a new "wave" they will twist and contort. Expect even more draconian measures to be put on the population (goggles, face shields, outerwear, gloves, etc).

Someone I know said they were comfortable. Either way, I’m getting it solely for getting into and out of my office, and the occasional store trip. Minimal compliance.

I wear a construction dust mask. All for show when I need to enter a business that requires it. All other times NO MASK. Efff them. I think I already had it back in Feb or early March. Mild cold and flu symptoms for a couple days.

Ditto, same time frame, a few days of totally out of breath after going up the stairs, chills and shivers, and a bizarre headache. Couple of days, then back to normal, but it did strike me as odd.

I ran a low grade fever for about a day and half and had some cold symptoms and felt a bit crappy. On a scale of 1 to 10 on previous cold/flu's I've had it was about a 1 or 2.

Did you two get tested?
My wife swears I had it back in late Jan/early Feb. Went to the doc for an upper respiratory problem.

I didn't get tested, but in February I had a short duration cold that had the identical symptoms of Covid.
But think about it, how many people with a cold or the flu seek doctor or hospital treatment? Very small percentage. Also, for those in living care or nursing homes, pre-covid, how many died and it was chalked up to pneumonia or a upper respiratory infection, or even what they were previously dying from?
Had Coumo not sent infected persons to nursing facilities, the death toll would have been much lower in NY. Another part of the equation was the CDC encouraging doctors to list Covid on the death certificates even if it wasn't the primary source of death.
Bottom line, this has been the most epic scam ever perpetuated.

Have no intention of being tested unless I again present symptoms that warrant testing. Ditto any "vaccine" that is developed. I'm not at all in the anti-vax crowd, but would cast a hairy eyeball at any Covid vaccine offered.
-
I suspect that covid-19 will be similar to the flu and not like the measles. More specifically, having had covid-19 does not grant longterm immunity to it.
Sooooo, the covid-19 vaccine will probably get mixed in with the flu vaccine and pneumonia vaccine as something to have, especially the older/vulnerable population.
And, no, I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I’m due for a periodic diagnostic procedure later this month.
Hospital told me they they have to give me a Covid test two days before the procedure.
Not sure what to think about that, but not much I can do about it short if not having it done.

Sorry for your future positive covid diagnosis.

I was thinking the same thing. At least it’s with my hospital and not the county system run by the National Guard.

My wife had a “Karen” a week and a half ago. She was in the grocery store pop aisle at 0800 talking to a guy stocking Dr. Pepper products. Store has a mask “requirement” (but at that time no state mask mandate.). They both had their masks down around their necks.
Karen came around the corner at the far end of the aisle and yelled at both of them “You don’t have your masks on. It’s the law!” (It’s not.). The Dr. Pepper guy said “it’s OK, we both have asthma.” (Brilliant response.)
Karen screeched “No you don’t. I’m so sick and tired of people using that excuse.” Then she kept walking towards them yelling some bullshit. She was close enough that my wife could read her mask, which said “Proud Democrat, Proud Liberal.”
To which my wife (God I love her) read Karen’s mask aloud, and then said “Aren’t you the people who always say ‘my body, my choice?’ Then it’s MY body, MY choice”, after which she snapped her mask on her neck to put an explanation point in the dialogue.
Karen huffed and puffed and stormed out saying she was going to get a manager.
Dr. Pepper guy turned to my wife, put out his hand, and said “Nicely done!”

Lol. Ok, “Soda.”
And that’s “Coke” to EppyGA.

About three weeks ago I woke up Sunday morning and it hurt me to breathe. Not in my lungs but up higher. I thought that was rather strange. Put on the pulse oximeter, read 96, took my temp, 97.1. By Monday morning, back to normal. Don't know what it was, could have been CV-19 and my body just did an excellent job of fighting it off? Don't care at this point.
We were in Savannah this afternoon, mayor says masks are mandatory. We never put one on. Wife went in a shop along the river to get a bottle of water, no one hassled her. We went and met Todd Swezey and his wife Jaqueline for dinner, not one of us wore a mask, weren't hassled there either.
We're at Country Inn & Suites, they still can't figure out how to do breakfast, they don't clean your room.

No, the Yankees (IE New England) call it soda. The mid-westerners (and that includes western PA and NY as those regions have values that more align with mid-westerners) call it pop.
Interesting that coastal blue states are soda, and notice how much of a mix VA, NC, and FL are compared to the balance of the south. This is due to Yankees relocating or retiring south, and bringing their values, customs, and politics to states that used to be firmly red. Er, I mean coke.

It is interesting isn't it? I grew up in suburban Philly which is mainly part of the Northeast and we call it Soda. However, I've lived in CO, CA, KY, CT and spent a lot of time in other places essentially commuting weekly by airline so I have heard it all. A friend of mine form Western PA, Pittsburgh area native, says Pop, Yinz, and calls rubber bands gum bands. Weird. :)

Gumband is one word, BTW. He ever call you a jagoff?

Jagoff:
A rude assholelike person. originated in pittsburgh
"Yinz were acting like jagoffs the other night, all drunk on Ahrns n'at"
BTW, and Ahrn is an Iron, aka Iron City Beer.

Rest In Peace Herman Cane. I think it would chuckle that his obituary thread has been turned into a pop v soda v coke discussion.
