Title: Why have States?
Post by: President-Elect Bob Noel on November 10, 2016, 08:17:18 AM
along the lines of the popular vote for President of the United States of America...

if people want to eliminate the electoral college for the Presidential elections, why even bother with States at all?

It would make far more sense and provide for a far better economic recovery to force the federal pig sty to operate within the narrow confines of power outlined the constitution.

We are not a direct democracy and were not designed to be so. That's the answer I give.

Excellent question. If EC is abolished, how would campaigning change? R's would travel extensively over miles of countryside whilst D's would focus on urban areas. The messaging and target audience would not change.

If there were no states, the federal govt would run everything. Not a good outcome there, but many libs lust for that.

I feel gerhardt's pain about living in a state that never goes your color, but the states are a bulwark against federal tyranny.

Why have a country if there are no borders?

This is an important piece of the Fundamental Transformation.

Discussing and debating the EC seemed reasonable, regardless of which side your opinion falls on.  Why some people have to behave so immaturely with threads like this is disappointing.

You don't want to rationally talk about something, fine.  But grow up a little.

As was the Open Borders policy the Dems want to destroy our sovereignty, and make us beholden to global interest, not American interests.  This should be a collection of strong states, with borders, that controls a weak Federal Government.  My how things have changed.

It's rational to not want mob rule. It's rational to consider this a union of states, not individuals. It's rational to give as much voice as possible to every legal voter.

Someone posted recently that in CA, redistricting has already been accomplished that virtually guarantees Dem rule, and pointed out the perpetual bankruptcy the Dems have thus wrought there.

What in the hell is immature about this thread?  Who's irrational, and who needs to grow up?

I see nothing offensive about this thread in the slightest. If this thread is offensive, then I've got no safe space for you.

Just think how #calexit would change things.  Fifity-five EC votes that the "D" party counts on every four years would go away.  California would probably go broke fairly quickly without Federal funds.

Why have a country if there are no borders?

This is what Trump was saying all along, and it made sense.  Without borders, and a legal immigration process we are not a country.  We are just a place with STUFF, without any national sovereignty, and eventually limited rule of law, or the powers that be, pick and choose which laws to enforce like Obama does.
