I want to share some observations. Y'all know I live in Georgia, for many it would be labeled "red neck" country as would most of the south.
Thursday and Friday we made our trip to Concord, NC and back. We made several stops along the way and interacted with many folks of various races, colors and creeds. Never once were any of the interactions unfriendly. We held doors for each other, exchanged greetings with each other, had short conversations, etc.
I am quite tired of being labeled and divided when that is just not happening here. Are there some idiots, certainly and there will always be.
Last night we went to see "Devotion" a great movie about a black Naval aviator in the early fifties. There were a fair number of folks in the theater with us. Among them was an older gentleman, who I'm guessing served in some branch of the military. He was with family members and they kept a close watch on him as he seemed a bit unsteady at times. Barbara uses a walker nearly all the time now. We sat in a low row as there was not room in the row we usually sit in. When the movie was over, I got Barbara;s walker and she headed down the ramp to the door. This gentleman and his family were near her and this man worked to get to the door and hold it for Barbara. People will hold the door for us all the time, including younger folks but this was quite special.

Alabama here and I agree. People, all races, are friendly, talkative, and polite. Wouldn’t live anywhere else.
-
Yet the Media ignores all that and promotes we're all racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. Many lap it up. Idiots all. Yet we're not. Go figure.
-
There are places in this country that I would call post-racial. Not that they are perfect, but where it seems the coexistence with different races is more coexistence and less confrontation. In other words, it feels more normal.
I lived in Charlotte 2000-2006, and the racial tension was more pronounced at that time with blacks and Hispanics than with whites. But racial tensions were still palpable.
Racial tension is huge in Milwaukee and Chicago. Less so in Iowa.
One place that definitely felt post-racial was, I kid you not, Starkville, Mississippi. My daughter went to MSU’s vet school, so we spent a good amount of time down there for 4 years from 2011-2015.
My point is there are places brutal divided, and in most cases it’s self-inflicted, due to self-destructive behavior, massive drug use, gangs, and a general disregard for life.
Yet I think the majority of this country is much more peacefully neutral than the democrats and the MSM would ever allow to be widely known.

Lefty urban dwellers are CLUELESS about us "redneck" areas. They buy LIES. Then regurgitate them. They think we are a bunch of KKK racists going around lynching blacks and killing gays and that we are filled with hatred. The media, the left, and even the White House actively promote this stereotype. Reality is completely different. Here in Texas people are more friendly and loving and accepting than anywhere else I've ever lived.

If it keeps the ignorant urban dwellers out of our bit of paradise, then let them have their delusions.

I remember spike lee saying, “It’s ALL about race.”
The hard core communist left uses racism as a tool by which they grab power, just like useless assholes like gore users global warming.
They know they’re lying, but the lie is so useful.

My brother lives on Martha's Vineyard. He has run into Spike Lee once and I know others who have. He's a huge fucking racist. One friend years ago saw him walking on the side of the road, pre-cell phone days, right after he got famous. Stopped and asked him if he needed a ride. He told them he would rather walk than get a ride from white people. Fuck him.

But it doesn’t. As soon as some developer builds homes anywhere within an hour or even more now from any size town or city, they descend en masse. They bring they're Communist hypocrisy with them.

And think about it. The ONLY reason Musk is now on leftists’ shit list is because he is allowing all voices to be heard, and is not going to silence people. THAT’S IT.
These people only want their voices to be heard, period. Well fuck them all, and fuck their offspring, if they ever fail to abort one of them.

It's the time of the year when grammar gets run over by a reindeer.
In college physics classes I learned that it is sometimes acceptable to get within one order of magnitude of the correct answer. I figure the same rule applies to grammar.

I closed mine down when Trump was banned, but never really used it before when I had it. I found it too clunky, not knowing what’s new, etc. more trouble than it was worth.
If this free speech move takes hold there I might rejoin and look you up!

Yeah, I have an account there. It's pretty amusing right now.
I’m brand new to it and am figuring out how it works. Right now my problem is that my feed is full of the people I’m “following” plus whatever the algorithm thinks I want to see which of course leans right, which I don’t want. I want random, I want to see all points of view. The whole reason I haven’t gotten on Twitter before now is that it leaned left because of the censorship. Naturally I don’t want that either.
I don’t want Musk’s takeover to result in a right wing echo chamber nor do I want a left wing echo chamber which it had become before. I’m thinking it’s not a right wing echo chamber but I feel like I’m not “seeing” everything but rather only a biased subset of what is really there.
How can you set it so you get just random feeds? Don’t tell me that I must “follow” lefties in order to do that, I don’t want to give them the boost.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm following some things that interest me like EAA, CAF, Musk, NASA, Bee, and Not The Bee. Catturd and Scott Adams. I really have no interest in following leftists and seeing their mental illness at work. Catturd does retweet with some scathing commentary some of the more crazy leftists. When I'm feeling adventurous I dive into the comments. But I always lurk. Never post.

Eyesight does have its uses!
I had been taking hydroxychloroquine for almost ten years to reduce the progression of rheumatoid arthritis but stopped taking it a year ago because long-term use can lead to retinopathy. During the first ten years of use the probability of retinopathy is about 1% per year. After that the probability can reach 4% per year at twenty years. Just not worth the risk and there are alternatives to it, though it is an otherwise benign medicine when used at the doses recommended to people having auto-immune diseases.

I took it for a short time many years ago and quit because of fear of the retinopathy. I had a bottle of it and eventually threw it out only to regret it when Covid came around. A few days of it for Covid wouldn’t hurt.

No, because his choice for president has destroyed the economy and the perfesser can't afford it any longer.
That's my take. He blamed both his eyesight and that he can't afford it because his income is holding steady but inflation is raising expenses. Big fucking surprise. He voted for it and he got what he voted for. And more. I think his eyesight is just an excuse. It sounds better to the buyer and he doesn't have to admit his part in the collapsing economy.
-
I remember seeing his plane posted on the boards at Oshkosh. Looks like he dropped down in price quite a bit. Sounds like the whole country can't afford Biden's inflation, or pilots are getting tired of overpaying for massed produced pieces of aluminum from 50 years ago.

Oh, he says eventually the lenses will need to be replaced. Just cataracts, totally fixable. Whew! I understand his hesitancy. I was very scared to pull the trigger on lens replacement but when you get blind enough you do it.
Also sounds like money is a major factor. Could be a combination of other things too. He doesn’t have to blab all his reasons publicly.

FWIW:
My wife had terrible eyesight. When her cataracts were removed and new lenses put in, she had one for distance and one for reading.
Her brain took over and made the necessary adjustments within a few minutes and she no longer needs glasses.

Yes, selling my beloved Mooney and getting out of GA altogether. Bought it in Georgia. Way way way more black folks in Georgia than here. Went out to lunch with a couple of the local mechanics (one did a pre buy inspection on my Cherokee) mentioned the plethora African Americans. They said we up North could have them, and proceeded into some of the most racist and bigoted diatribes I'd heard in all my years.
N=1, and says no more than that.

Odd, I find the people who associate with the democrat party to be among the most racist and bigoted around. Nothing to do with location.
And along that same line, it seems that liberals from the north love the stereotype of the ignorant racist southerner.

Was the “plethora” of African Americans they dealt with mostly urban gangster types? When I, at age 11 or 12, was surrounded and verbally assaulted by a bunch of black thugs - thank goodness only verbally - my bias ticked up a bit. It went back down when I got to high school and made some black friends, even more when I got to college and made more black friends who, imagine this, we’re not criminal thugs.
It’s instinctive for an organism to use a past encounter with another organism to pre-judge others of similar appearance to the other organism for predictive purposes. I don’t know if city dwellers are more prejudiced than rural people who work in mixed race environments, where there isn’t a big welfare mom/absent father community, but that’s one theory. On the other hand, NO exposure to another race also creates prejudice because nature makes us wary of unfamiliar out-groups.
Rather than calling each other racists and bigots as if there’s a person on this planet not prone to it, wouldn’t it be more productive to acknowledge the biological underpinnings of interracial mistrust and go from there? The solution is to be open minded, respect other peoples’ points of view even if you think they are “wrong”, and allow “exposure therapy” to work - integration and gradual familiarization with each other, like what happened to me in high school.
And like I have always preached: Support a healthy economy, in order to address the very real inner city crime problem which damages all blacks by continuing negative but not entirely unjustified stereotypes. A healthy economy is a necessary but not sufficient solution: Black male role models - yes, toxic masculinity - is needed; a return to the nuclear family and a father in the home.
It’s an uphill battle against the Democrat welfare state, and feminism teaching black women they don’t need no stinkin man. Black men need to lead a revolution to get back those values. They can start by quitting voting Democrat and then telling their women to quit voting Democrat. Good luck with that one! Maybe they’ll listen to a black man marginally more than they’ll listen to some white bitch. Nope, guess not, apparently black sisters would rather listen to white liberal feminazis over a black man daring to suggest a return to traditional values. Racial prejudice against blacks isn’t going to go away until the inner city black crime problem is solved, and that won’t be solved until boys are again raised by their fathers.
To switch subjects, getting out of GA is something we all have to face sooner or later. Unless we fly until we take ourselves out while flying I suppose.
I hate to say it but we are also out of GA for good. We sold our plane when we moved to Texas but theoretically could get back into flying, however time hasn’t been on our side. Mark is no longer current and proficient and economic reality is such that we can’t really afford to own anymore and at the same time ensure we won’t outlive our money. Never were into renting either. And we don’t have a good flying mission from here like we did back east.
It is really painful though. Didn’t know our last flights were our last flights at the time. :'(

Your experience may vary.

No doubt.
Our current president has quite the racist history. And many icons of the democrat party have and had huge racist backgrounds. It’s all out there for all to see.

Only for glasses or contacts. Natural vision, lasik/PRK, CLE, IOL are OK.
But if one is thinking about it, one should do what you did and "test drive" it first.

Yea. To be a democrat is to be a hypocrite. That was more than likely projection for a short little professor spending a day or two in the scary south, and far away from his cloistered university existence in Columbus.

Once he gets caught outside the bubble of faux academia, he finds the real world far too taxing for his racist attitudes.
RFather than deal with his own racism, he projects it toward those he thinks are inferior to him.

True. And both are authoritarian but in different spheres.
Sometimes they come together in good ways but still are miles apart. For example some on the far right right now are very pro working class. As are some (not politicians!) on the far left. But where they differ is the solution. The far right would have government get its hands off the economy and the far left blames capitalism and wants even more government interference.
