Title: Privacy - lack thereof
Post by: Rush on October 23, 2021, 08:21:55 AM
Fantastic video about how privacy has changed over history, with great visual pictures and analogies.  Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know piecemeal but pulls it all together giving you a great overarching perspective.

His start up effort is something I might consider.  It might seem he's trying to sales pitch it but in this guy's case I think he's genuine. Especially since he's asking for developers to contact him. The app will be live sometime next year and they plan to let you use it free for the first year. Not sure what's going to happen after that.

Even if you've no interest in his project, the video is extremely well done. He's not trying to convince you that you have a problem just to sell you something. If anything he doesn't go far enough, he doesn't even mention the Snowden revelations about how all these data farms' data are being collected yet again and stored by the NSA unless his reference to the "create a virtual you" is to the NSA's profile building that it is doing continuously on each of us. (in addition to corporate marketing profile building)

Big Tech and Social Media are all about data mining.   Put their garbage on your computer or device, and everything now becomes theirs.   And people eat it up and want more.

This is about covid but here Russell ties the draconian covid mandates to this very data collection issue!  Very pertinent to this thread so I’m putting it here instead of a covid thread. The theme is that we have a global-wide authoritarian problem and governments all over the world are using technology and data to enforce their control.

Oh by the way, Russell, a “left leaning anarchist” (which would qualify him to join BLM/Antifa in theory, except they’re really just Marxist control freaks) is now being canceled as a right wing conspiracy theorist because he factually reported on the Sussman indictment. Basically he said “Even though I can’t stand Trump it looks like he didn’t collude with Russia after all, I’m shocked!” Which implies that he believed Trump did collude with Russia all these years, but he is looking at new evidence with an open mind, a mortal sin - thinking for yourself!
