Spin Zone / Re: 2020 - what will we make of it?

We can beat libs with logic, but you just make them more stubborn when you constantly call them schoolboy names.

But that's the point.  You can't beat them with logic.  They don't know or care anything about it, and when they're presented with logical arguments, they themselves resort to name-calling.  I know this because I'm a homophobic, xenophobic, bigoted NRA member.

She says President Trump is a "coworker" of Pelosi, and therefore Pelosi should be able to force an involuntary evaluation.  Wow--just wow.

The entropy of a closed thermodynamic system will increase.  The earth is not a closed system--it receives an enormous amount of energy from the sun every day.  In fact if it didn't radiate most of it off during the night, the place would be incinerated in short order.

They know where I stand, so I try not to ruin dinner too much for everyone.

That's smart.  At a small dinner party I recently got into a semi-heated argument about gun control with two gun-owning California democrats.  What a waste of time--in the end there was nothing left to do but reluctantly admit that a couple of my friends vote without thinking about what they're doing.

If it fails, as it surely will, then we can say "told you so" and stop proposing such inane policies.

It will fail, no doubt, but I would expect them to use the gun control approach: instead of giving everyone $1000, give them $2000.

Pilot Zone / Re: A Few Aviation Questions
« on: January 15, 2019, 03:53:00 PM »
How many times can a group rehash the same old questions? Either the community and conversations evolve or the community dies off.

Years ago I made this post to rec.aviation.piloting:

Like many who have lurked and posted here for long, I have noticed that
certain topics come up again and again, taking quite a lot of space and
often even starting up tired old flame wars.  Below is a system I
propose to codify first-postings.  I think this will be much easier and
quicker in the long run.  Like reading TAFs.  For example, how many
times have you read a (2,3,27) or a (16,10,11)?  Anyway, maybe someone
with even less of a life than I have can figure out what to do with the
responses.

Presidential elections would essentially boil down to New York, Ohio, Florida, Texas, California and the city of Chicago. If you don't live there, your vote won't really matter.

I fully support the electoral college system, but ironically, as a California conservative, my vote doesn't matter because of it.  We, like almost all states, are "winner-take-all", so my presidential vote evaporates into the ether while my mere presence here adds to the number of electoral votes that go to a candidate I would not vote for.

As has been pointed out many times here and elsewhere, dems want to eliminate the electoral college for the simple reason that if we did so, there would never be another non-democrat president.

As a Californian, I don't understand the turmoil.  If the California government shut down, it would be a dream come true.

That would have a huge impact on the job opportunities for the middle and lower class, who are largely being shut out by immigrants who work for lower wages.

Ironic that in California, where the democrat party is hugely pro-union (some would say controlled by unions), democrats want to import scabs by the thousands, if not millions.

Communist medical systems notwithstanding, I'm having difficulty understanding how the tumor could have gotten so large without someone deciding to do something about it.

Please help me understand the need for suppressors.

First, you need to understand that a suppressor doesn't "silence" the gun--not even close.  A suppressor is MUCH less effective than a muffler on a car.  What it does do is muffle some of the "crack" of the report, making it sound like more of a "thump".  I went to a rifle match last year that was held on a Marine base.  A few Marines were shooting suppressed M4s, and the sound of their fire could clearly be heard, even wearing ear muffs and ear plugs together.

Dianne Feinstein and Hillary have been watching too many 007 movies.

I wouldn't give California a nickel unless they forced me, and I live there.

My only concern is that a revolving door of Congressional oversight would shift power to the perpetual  bureaucracy.

That's essentially what has happened in California.  In our case we have a single-party revolving door of rookie politicians.  The results have been disastrous.

Yes, Colt made the original AR15.  Now when you read an article that refers to an AR15 they're referring to a rifle of a particular platform, not a rifle from a specific manufacturer.

That's not true here in California, where, if you have a rifle that actually says "AR15" on it (yes, made by Colt or some other manufacturers) it is unconditionally illegal unless you registered it when the "assault weapon" ban went into effect.  If you have a rifle that says something else on it, it may or may not be illegal, depending on how it's configured.  I am not making this up--our legislators are morons.

This flowchart describes the whole mess:  https://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf
