Spin Zone / "This is how freedom dies"

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/08/journalists_clap_and_cheer_for_clinton_during_press_conference.html

Excerpt:

'Journalists' clap and cheer for Clinton during 'press conference

Following her speech, Clinton participated in a Q&A with five pre-selected journalists.

The event's organizers and Clinton's campaign team maintain that the Q&A portion of the candidate's appearance at the journalism convention constituted a "press conference."

That means, then, that the Democratic presidential candidate held a "press conference" in a room filled with people who just moments earlier were cheering and applauding her vision for the White House.

NABJ President Sarah Glover said Friday that Clinton's appearance marked the "largest press conference with any presidential candidate before a room filled with journalists of color."

From the rest of the political press – silence.  That this travesty of journalism could go unnoticed and unremarked upon by other reporters covering the event defies belief.

This is how freedom dies – with thunderous applause.

Spin Zone / The Left's Positions Supported - Illegal Aliens
« on: July 27, 2016, 06:33:43 PM »
I don't believe that is true. The Left's positions can usually be supported, it is a matter of what principle values are used. To make a blanket statement that only one side's arguments make sense is exactly why you don't understand. You aren't trying or you don't respect some else's right to be different.

Now - I do not consider myself on the left, but let's try an exercise - give me a topic and I will explain the Left's position as best I can.

Start a new thread.

Each position will probably need its own thread.

I believe President Obama's actions are insupportable; he essentially stopped supporting the United States of America's immigration laws.  The Left seems to be glorifying illegal aliens (re:  their convention in Philly).  Over the last year or so, it has become obvious to me through talking with health care providers that illegal aliens are receiving an astounding amount of federal dollars, with more set to come over the next few years via ACA.  It is a common perception on the right that the Left hopes these people will become citizens and vote, or vote illegally, as apparently does happen, and so maintain the Left's grip on power.

Spin Zone / Coping with Crazy
« on: May 17, 2016, 04:42:12 PM »
Any interesting strategies for a happy existence in the crazymaking culture we have right now?

Just when I feel I've partitioned everything off into things I can and cannot do anything about, they push back into consciousness ...

The candidates
The restroom stuff, especially the O-bomb recently.  Not well thought out, but par for the O-course.
The deceptions, scapegoating and hollering that mask truth and prevent progress
The hypocrisy
The surprise!  In my state, marijuana-related auto accident deaths doubled after voters legalized pot.  Hello!
The inability of people to act like adults, and the upcoming generation of future adults not looking too good
The sucking dry of medical care for seniors by O-care.  That is a quote from my Mom's doctor yesterday.

And so on.  It isn't getting better.  What can we do?

Spin Zone / PolitiFact Bias
« on: April 02, 2016, 10:57:49 AM »
One of PolitiFact's main drawbacks is that they try to fact check "facts" that really can't be checked.  Their assigned ratings are often misleading.  Ran across this site that thoughtfully approaches the problem.

Spin Zone / Who would your grandmother vote for?

Nassim Taleb:

"What we are seeing worldwide, from India to the UK to the US, is the rebellion against the inner circle of no-skin-in-the-game policymaking “clerks” and journalists-insiders, that class of paternalistic semi-intellectual experts with some Ivy league, Oxford-Cambridge, or similar label-driven education who are telling the rest of us 1) what to do, 2) what to eat, 3) how to speak, 4) how to think… and 5) who to vote for.

With psychology papers replicating less than 40%, dietary advice reversing after 30y of fatphobia, macroeconomic analysis working worse than astrology, microeconomic papers wrong 40% of the time, the appointment of Bernanke who was less than clueless of the risks, and pharmaceutical trials replicating only 1/5th of the time, people are perfectly entitled to rely on their own ancestral instinct and listen to their grandmothers with a better track record than these policymaking goons."

Spin Zone / Coherent Trump
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:57:04 AM »
I followed this video avidly.  He has points NO ONE ELSE is raising.

Really, segue-ing into a third party type situation may look something like this; a crossover/blended candidate.

Spin Zone / March 10 GOP Debate
« on: March 10, 2016, 05:57:59 PM »
We have been gritting our teeth and watching these things; I confess to a faint, unrealized hope each time that something will break for sanity and maturity and a sense of moving forward.

Hope not dead yet.

Pilot Zone / Night Safety Pilot
« on: March 04, 2016, 12:16:18 PM »
My husband flies VFR all the time.  He is instrument rated but does not fly IFR, I think because he is conservative when it comes to overall safety.

But he acts as safety pilot for a guy, in a Mooney (my husband flies a C175), and next week will be safety pilot for a night flight.  The Mooney guy is going for all kinds of ratings, so he's pretty active.

I feel uncomfortable that my husband's adjustment to the human factors/situational awareness issues at night may not be the best because he never flies at night.  I've read about many accidents that occur at night because perception can be so altered, especially when landing.

Should I be worried?  He says no.  :-\
