In several local areas the police are saying they will pull people over and ask where they are going, and if they aren't going to a grocery store or other "approved" places, you get a violation.
No, say these lawyers. That's not constitutional.

I believe the Supreme Court has upheld that you don’t relinquish your constitutional rights just because you’re exercising the privilege of driving.

Understood. And anyway, since when do the police let constitutional rights stop them from nailing you if they decide they really want to.

Law Enforcement and the "Judicial System" is now a BUSINESS and revenue generator. They are fine with violating rights, lying etc. and leave the recourse to the courts and YOUR EXPENSIVE lawyer, IF you can afford one to make things right. Even then it may not work out. I give them NO reason to be aware of my presence and if that means driving like and old lady, so be it.
Very little if anything happens to cops when they lie, steal, cheat, or otherwise break the law. Often they get reassigned, get paid leave or even promoted.

THIS. But let me make it very clear, I believe most police officers are good guys, and risk their lives to serve their community and so I have no patience with cop haters. Like any profession, there are some, hopefully a minority, who abuse their power, use it for personal revenge, enrich themselves unfairly and so on. And there are some whose intentions are good but get caught up in a skewed bias under a system that is very flawed. It's not an individual cop's fault that civil asset forfeiture is allowed by law, and that the department is underfunded, and he might sincerely believe someone's cash is ill gotten. Then again, I'm sure there are others who know darn well a person is innocent but don't care. This is what I call a sociopath - a person who helps themselves by hurting another and feels no empathy or remorse for doing so. They exist in all areas of life.

Yep, just hung up with my sister who lives with 93 year old mom in Wake County. Things are rough there, and getting worse.

We’re lucky, so far. South Dakota governor Kristi Noem had issued an executive order that contains no “musts” but instead uses “shoulds”. The state has not shut down any businesses nor does it sound like she intends to. She has said that imposition of any such orders would be up to individual cities and counties.

Whenever I get pulled over I just keep repeating "Am I being detained?" until I'm in handcuffs in the back of the police car, at which point I know I am.

For normal traffic stops, etc, I just do what I need to do to be on my way. The point is, you do not have to answer every question they ask which are totally unrelated to the stop.

There might be a little truth to that, but not much.
IMO, Law Enforcement draws in a lot more good guys that really want to do good and help society.
Like I heard when I was a teenager, "If you get mugged, call a hippie".

It could be true! So I’m going on a Google hunt for data.
Wife beating is supposedly higher among LEOs than the general population (https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/09/police-officers-who-hit-their-wives-or-girlfriends/380329/) but I’m not sure it’s causation, not correlation. Violent behavior is inversely related to wealth, socioeconomic status, education level, and IQ. So it’s possible people from families of lower wealth for example go into police work and that accounts for the difference.

Somewhere in there it says: Police departments do not attract particular personalities, but instead tend to recruit members from a relatively authoritarian class of people. Furthermore, the police experience itself intensifies authoritarianism
Which seems to back up my theory above. But if you scroll all the way down to the conclusion it says more research is needed.
Of course authoritarianism isn’t exactly the same thing as sociopathy but for the purpose of this post, it’s close enough for me.

The progressive left is jizzing all over themselves with their newfound authoritarian regimes. Their dreams are being realized, and it’s going to be difficult to ween them off.

If people were allowed to arm themselves, then we wouldn't need to call anyone except to mop up.
