Republicans in Utah are either stupid, insane, or have gone full authoritarian mode and want the U.S. to be like China where VPNs are illegal. What were they thinking? This is unenforceable unless you outlaw VPNs.
And I reiterate: Are they
trying to lose in 2024? Get off the moralizing and focus on the economy, stupid!
Before you attack me because “You want to sexualize children! Porn is bad!” Hear me out.
1. This law targets everyone under 18. This means adolescent boys will not (legally) be able to access porn. In a world where they are increasingly unable to actually have sex with real girls, you are just going to frustrate them more or teach them to circumvent the law. Whereas the actual tiny little kids you don’t want watching porn are far less likely to attempt it in the first place.
2. This law requires age verification which amounts to you disclosing your identity. Who the hell wants to do that while viewing porn!? You have to either turn on your camera giving them your face, which we all know that facial recognition software can individually identify you, or upload your actual drivers license with your date of birth. If you think the “third party age verification company” isn’t going to sell that data to marketing companies and the NSA, I have a bridge to sell you. Look forward to your inbox being flooded with many times more sexually oriented spam.
3. This is a step closer to outlawing VPNs and TOR and ushering in universal internet surveillance. That is the wet dream of the left. Why the hell are conservatives handing it to them on a silver platter?
4. Yes, excessive porn use
is a problem, but eradicating our privacy is not the solution. Look to the causes and address those. The pathological rift between the sexes caused by feminism and the left’s attack on the nuclear family for starters. The decay of parental authority and supervision and the focus on sex in our schools. Parents: Monitor your kids’ internet usage. A far better idea would have been for Utah to provide a complete parental control software package to parents to install on all their kids’ devices. No it would not stop the cunning teenager from getting around it, but it would stop the prepubescent babies from coming across inappropriate stuff and that’s the real goal.
Unless you are telling me the Republicans believe a 17 year old male should not view porn. Why is it okay at 18 and not 17? Because an arbitrary age at which you can vote? So you’re smart enough on your 18th birthday to vote rationally but you weren’t a day earlier. Uh huh. Meanwhile nature has you sexually mature at 14 but we arbitrarily make you wait four long years before you’re allowed to do anything about it, now you’re not even allowed to jerk off to porn if you live in Utah or Louisiana.
So here we are, with drag queens twerking in front of 5 year olds and the (over) reaction on the right is to try to stop 17 year olds from masturbating to porn.
Like I said, are they
trying to lose in 2024? Isn’t the looming economic collapse and WW3 a slightly higher priority?
