Title: Feral hog attack
Post by: Rush on November 30, 2019, 06:09:41 AM
All the articles about this incident emphasize these attacks are rare. They are NOT rare. Our neighbor was attacked by one of these things, messed his foot up bad, he needed surgery.

At least this article prints that you should carry a gun. The MSM articles wouldn’t dream of suggesting you do the one best thing to defend yourself.

Hunting these things is a thing around here. Yum. At least they’re good for something.

In Soviet Russia, Bacon eats YOU!

She may have had a stroke, or heart attack and was disabled when the Hogs got to her, or she was eaten alive which is not a very pleasant way to go.  They are nasty creatures, and popular with hunters for their meat, and to eradicate them as they are VERY DESTRUCTIVE, and they breed like rabbits.

They’re very aggressive. I’m inclined to believe they attacked her. But apparently they do eat dead humans if they come across them. Of course, I think infowars is a “right wing” news source and as such this can’t be true:

Even humans will eat humans if they’re hungry enough. We’re omnivores.  ;D

Are you still in Raleigh or did you move back?  I've never heard of feral hogs in Raleigh, but certainly a thing in parts of Texas.

Surprisingly, feral hogs were also a big problem in New York City in the relatively recent past and they're still a problem upstate.  I have seen news paper stories from the 1910-1920 time frame that reported children being killed by hogs.  They were the original livestock of the dutch settlers and their...output...was used as fertilizer for the crops.  Most of Manhattan north of Wall Street has been covered with pig feces.

No, I'm in southeast Texas. Very near the TPC plant that exploded this week, in fact. We are 5 or 6 miles from the blast and had minor damage to tiles on our porch roof. Scared the beejeesus out of us. I've never felt anything like that. I thought a plane had crashed in our yard. We go outside and the sky is lit up orange and you can hear the roar of the fire. They evacuated a 4 mile radius and those folks had to spend Thanksgiving away from their homes, but they've got the fire under control now; just burning off remaining combustibles.

Anyhoo here's the range of these things. It's a year out of date already and might not be completely accurate anyway. It looks like Ashe County is white but they had them when we lived there, and we left 3 years ago.  I can believe they're still in NY too.

They are an invasive species. Funny how in past centuries people had no clue about invasive species and brought plants and animals willy nilly around the globe, and caused all kinds of environmental problems. Pythons in Florida really gives me the creeps. And macaques anywhere in the U.S.... we do NOT want those things populating our continent! But there are already some wild colonies of them in Florida I understand. If we think hogs are bad, those monkeys will break into your house and raid your kitchen. They even stole and killed a newborn in India a couple years ago.

I like Bonobos. Aka “Pygmy Chimp”. They look like the common chimp but totally different personalities. Sweet and peace loving, and they constantly have sex all the time to resolve disputes instead of violence like the common chimp. Common chimpanzees are assholes.

I like some species of monkeys but not macaques, they are vermin. Just like you say, mean, evil and vile. Filthy too.
