Notice how there was no national shutdown during any of these previous pandemics.

1957-1958 Pandemic (H2N2 virus) - 116,000 deaths in the United States, no shutdown

1968 Pandemic (H3N2 virus) - 100,000 US deaths and no shutdown.  Indeed, we sent men to the Moon multiple times (Apollo 8 and Apollo 10)

The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic: A New Flu Virus Emerges - more than 60 million cases in the US, 12,469 deaths, no shutdown

now, we have COVID-19, BOO!!!

Thank the now overly powerful MEDIA. Democrats and the Bureaucracy which is largely Democrat including people like Fauci.  In addition to the shift in the obsession of people with safety at all cost even at the cost of other people's well being.

The one's like in 1968 had no 23/7 news channels screaming at us all the time. You got 3o minutes of news and most of that was devoted to the Viet Nam war.

The 1968 Hong Kong flu epidemic extended until 1969-1970.

Woodstock was in August 1969 where 500,000 people were most definitely not social distancing.

Not just previous pandemics, but polio, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, measles, pertussis, etc. Thousands of kids and young adults died of these diseases. Yet nobody shut down the country and stopped working. Although sad, America worked on until vaccines were developed for these diseases.

Really, compared to yesteryear, we have it quite good.

This!  Any one of those was way worse than this thing. No one would have dreamed of committing national suicide for any of those. Now, we are panicked lemmings all running straight off a cliff.
