Title: So...is Google potentially in trouble?
Post by: bflynn on June 10, 2019, 10:13:16 AM
Google is in the news right now for lawsuits against it related to discrimination against non-liberals.  Specifically they're being sued because of allegations that they discriminate against white / male / conservatives candidates and reject those candidates out of hand.

One part of me says - that isn't right.  Nobody should be discriminated against for what they believe.

And another part says so what?  Google ought to be able to hire who they want and if those people destroy the most valuable company in the world because they lose half their customers, so what?

I've heard an idea that makes me think Google (and FB, Amazon, etc) might be in huge trouble.  There's fair evidence that religious belief corresponds to political affiliation.  If true, then discrimination against politics would also be systemic discrimination against religion and Google's discrimination against politics turns into a massive violation of the CRA with billions upon billions in liability.  Granted, it would take decades to show, but I think it's a fairly high likelihood of prevailing.

I think Google, Facebook, Amazon and much of the Tech industry are more at risk from legitimate Anti Trust law violations than discrimination against White, Male, Conservatives.  I don't see them breaking any laws by supporting only Far Left Democrat candidates.  I don't agree with them, and believe they discriminate with hiring and in the workplace for creating a Far Left PC culture.  Heaven forbid you express an opinion in which they don't agree.

I think they're a lawsuit waiting to happen.  All it needs is a crusader lawyer who can spend 20 years doing it for the 20 billion dollar payout.

Hmmm, maybe I should apply there with a made up resume that includes "Christians for Trump" under social activities.

In California it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of political affiliation:

Quote
California Labor Code § 1101 prohibits employers from having “any rule, regulation, or policy” (1) forbidding or preventing employees from engaging or participating in politics or running for office; or (2) “controlling or directing, or tending to control or direct the political activities or affiliations of employees.” That statute prohibits employers from taking action against employees for their political activities that don’t directly affect their job performance.

But in California it's OK to break federal laws they deem "don't apply" to them.  ???

I don't see where that law prohibits them from discrimination in hiring.  Just can't try to control their political activities once hired.  I can see where this law would simply have companies not hiring people whose political activities they'd want to redirect.
