Some people think the fact that Obama insulted Trump for five minutes at the WH Correspondents Dinner was the genesis of Trump's decision to run. He got back at him didn't he?

Nope. Trump has been considering a presidential run for decades:

Neat article.
Trump focused his campaign on the issues of fair trade, eliminating the national debt, and achieving universal healthcare as outlined in the campaign companion piece The America We Deserve, released in January 2000. He named media proprietor Oprah Winfrey as his ideal running mate and said he would instantly marry his girlfriend, Melania Knauss, to make her First Lady.
That led me to this article (http://www.dailydot.com/layer8/donald-trump-the-america-we-deserve/), which admittedly cherry-picks items from Trump's year 2000 book called The America We Deserve.
Quite a few of his positions have evolved. In complete fairness, so have mine.

Knowing almost nothing about Trump (I voted for the Libertarian candidates and always planned too, but since I'm in heavily blue Oregon my vote good only to help push them toward 5%) so to get an idea of what kind of policies he may pursue that endured, I found his most recent political book (not including stuff written since 2015) is this one originally written in ~2010:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006E4DZ4O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=147UAFMW9J6Y5&coliid=I26RYFQ4NABUSJ (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006E4DZ4O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=147UAFMW9J6Y5&coliid=I26RYFQ4NABUSJ)
Might make sense to buy an old print copy ($0.50 + $3.99 shipping - sigh) and compare with his latest version to see what changed.
EDIT:
His 2000 book is available:
