American Exceptionalism may not MEAN Americans are better, but because of the Constitution and our form of government, Americans are (were) better because we were ALLOWED to be better. We were allowed to say what we wanted to. We were allowed to pursue our passion and take risks and seek rewards (or failure) based on our own choices and desires and abilities. We were allowed to compete and succeed and to reap those rewards for our efforts.
Not so much any more and it is a shame.

Sure there is. The population is being "trained" to accept orders from their betters and to do with less, and be grateful for some "freedom" when it's dished out to those in favor of the ruling party.

If a President just up and declared such a thing, nobody (hardly anybody) would obey and follow his orders. He would have had to make some advance preparations. The VP and the Speaker of the House would probably have to be in on it, along with a larger list of characters, like his press spokesperson. He would have to have had replaced many of the military leaders and judges.
Also, there would have to be some sort of emergency, manufactured or not, in order to give it any sense of legitimacy and 2A would have to be either eliminated or circumvented (think gun confiscation).
And if I were a liberal reading your hypothetical, I would be thinking that you were hypothesizing about Trump.
This would not be hard to do. Just gin up a false-flag civil war skirmish in the Heartland, make sure a few hundred innocent people get killed by AR-15 bullets, set off a bunch of bombs in cities, demand gun confiscation and most of the sheeple would comply, just like Australia.

The fucking twit academics are so utterly useless that the communist regime won't have a bit of use for them, and free states will be so over their bullshit, there will be no welcome here.
When the federal branch collapses from its debt the slave states will implode from the weight of the parasites they've created and begin a war against the states that remain self sufficient, while the inner city slums will erupt as food becomes scarce and start to feed off what's left of the slave state producers.
That won't last long,
