Biden is going to be President.

COVID is real.

Now, what are we going to do to improve the situation?

Powell’s 3,000-word address could have been summarized in just one sentence: “President Trump was right; we were wrong.”

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden spoke to a summit of Muslim voters Monday, telling them he wished U.S. schools taught more about Islam.

I wish our schools taught more about how Islam treats women and gays.  I wish they taught the songs that Islam teaches their young (Death to America, etc).  I wish they taught more about how people of other Religions are treated and about their history of Slavery, which still exists today.

But I don't think that was what Biden was getting at though.

Spin Zone / Never heard of one of these: 12ga pistol!

Seems like this would make for some good defense against a home intruder at night.  Only two shots but that should be enough to clear a room.  Only $479.  And it's "California legal" (for now).

At this point, I see no real reason for her not to resign.  They couldn't get a new Justice approved before November anyway, even if they tried, which they really shouldn't (try) after refusing to place a justice in an election year in 2016, being an election year and all.

But nothing will stop Trump from appointing a conservative in 2017.

Today he proved that even Supreme Court Justices need term limits.

Are you ok?  Have you left the forum?  Did Anthony scare you off?

Does anyone know why Rush isn't posting and why she said "NO, I'm not back"?  I"m worried about her?

Spin Zone / Racism; it still exists.
« on: June 03, 2020, 08:16:19 AM »
And by racism I mean white racism against others, mostly blacks.  Yes.  It still exists.

It isn't nearly as rampant and accepted as it was when I was a kid, but it still exists.
It is rejected, at least outwardly in almost every segment of society.
Blacks have more opportunity than ever before.  In (arguably) rare cases, blacks even receive more opportunity.  But denying that racism does still exist does nothing to fix the racial problems we still have.

On the other hand, rioting, looting, burning and hating doesn't fix the problem either.  As the meme said, that conduct does not help dispel the stereotypes they claim are false.

I like what they are doing in the Daytona Beach George Floyd demonstrations.  White people, INCLUDING WHITE POLICE, are joining the demonstrations and holding signs.  My favorite was the one that said "it isn't black against white, it is US against Racists".   There are gathering points to start and routes for the march.   And a site for the final "closing ceremony".  But the police also have a rather strong enforcement presence.  There is little chance for this to turn into a violent riot. (I hope).

The police chief has denounced the killing of George Floyd and announced that racism should not be acceptable and covered up and at the same time he denounced the violent protests.  We will see how it goes, but it does give me hope.

But then I turn on the MSM news or read an MSM paper or website, and I get all riled up and hateful again.

Spin Zone / Covid surcharge?
« on: May 15, 2020, 05:07:36 AM »
Personally, don't see a problem.  If you don't want to eat there, don't.  I'd rather see a sur charge than a permanent price increase.  Such a sur charge may be the only thing that helps keep them in business.  Perhaps the people saying that they have been hit by the Corona virus too shouldn't be out spending money in the first place.

That said, they should notify patrons prior to ordering that there is such a surcharge.

Spin Zone / Speaking of tax dollars
« on: May 08, 2020, 08:01:54 AM »
I fully understand the concept of lower taxes results in greater profit and higher tax revenue.  But there are some limits to that theory.

These CoronaVirus "relief" bills where Congress is throwing trillions of dollars, and the President is passing them are just unbelievable to me.  But let's just assume they were necessary and right.  Now, how do we pay for that?

I don't believe that leaving taxes low or even lowering them more will generate near enough revenue to pay for them.

And I don't think we should just extend the debt for another 50 to 100 years so our (your) children and grand children and great grand children will have to pay for them.

This may be the first time in my life that I might agree to a "temporary" (don't laugh) tax increase.  It might be 10 or 15 year temporary, but I see no other way of paying this off.  And it shouldn't be just a "tax the rich" solution.  Everybody has to pay.  After all, (almost) everyone except the moderately rich and up got those stimulus checks.

Tell me where I am wrong and I might even agree with you.  I really want to.
