Spin Zone / Re: White Christians need to act more Christian than white

The last paragraph of Dave's post:

"Having said this, there obviously are hold outs to the old fucked up white culture white people have had in the past. There are those that want to cling to ideas of "racial supremacy". It will take time to completely cleanse society of this rubbish and we are working on it. It's pretty obvious is if you really look around and not just at the sensational headlines that this is so."

At Dachau there is a haunting, skeletal sculpture with the words in several languages below it:  Never Again.  No one is saying we should ignore our history; it's history from which we learn.

It's painfully clear that even in the pre-internet age, it was perfectly possible, though even more so now, to find information that supports one's desire to continue to feel oppressed, or to justify one's desire to oppress.  It's also possible to move past that and actively work to a better future.  That is where Dave is going.  That is where we all must go.  And I think there is indeed enough energy naturally flowing in that direction to counter its opposite.

But we can't keep one foot in the boat and one on the dock.  There's no voyage without casting off.

How can we get this message VIRAL?  Excellent and spot on.

18 trillion in debt, soon to be 20.  Unfunded liability for social security and medicare, another 50 trillion or more depending on whose numbers you believe.

What am I missing?  How is this so okay that the government virtually ignores it?

Thank you.

Fox has that affect on people.

It's "effect."  And please tell us why you are down on Fox.

Interesting article: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/01/iran-sailors-obama-republicans/424371/

Good example of how unwilling we, as a nation, have become to truly look at both sides of an issue.  I do worry about flaccid leadership, but also about over-hawkishness.  Best point in the article, I think, is about the young Muslims and their willingness to go in new directions, away from the old, bearded ayatollahs and imams, and old ways of thinking divisively.

I think Cruz is smart enough to see all the nuances in this particular international problem, but plays to the base of hawk lovers.

How to get people to meet in the middle and truly analyze?  Too much acting and taking sides based on feelings only.

I posted a new thread announcing the new movie about the Obamas.  A few minutes later the thread was pulled and my hand was slapped for creating a politically themed thread.

Actually, all I did was post a link to an article about the movie and said it hadn't been rated yet.  I figured it would get a few yuks.

It's kinda fun to poke sticks at you guys every now and then and watch you snarl.   ;)
Ha, I saw it.  Yuk, indeed!  I honestly think The Early Years of Gerhardt would be more interesting!

Pilots are comfortable with a certain level of danger.  They have to have a certain level of intelligence.  Refusal to engage in a true discussion of observable realities doesn't seem to me a good quality for a pilot to have.

My husband is wonderfully able to discuss all sides of an issue.  Noting that this seems to go along with a more fully-engaged, actively working brain, I'm actually becoming more comfortable with the idea of flying with him.   :)

Thank you, FLTP!

ACA allows only a small segment of Americans to have a catastrophic plan.  Logically, catastrophic plans make the most sense.  The idea of insurance is to save you from financial catastrophe.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/11/obamacare-coverage-flies-under-radar-099635

Why ACA took that option away, I don't know.  It's no longer an option for us, should we lose our current insurance; we don't fall in the teeny demographic of people ACA allows to have it.

ACA is a nightmare unfolding.  Where it leads, we have speculated here; certainly, it is presently another toxic and dysfunctional Obama legacy that is gazed upon lovingly by the Unicorn contingent.

What will wake them up?

That thing should go viral.  The points made there are succinct, true, and germane.  And my liberal friends would stop listening as soon as they saw "Heritage Foundation."  How many more shootings/rapes/murders and the like will it take for them to see that indeed, "The peaceful majority is irrelevant."?

I propose a new logical fallacy...

Argumentum ad Governmentum

Takes the form,

The government say x...

Therefore, x is false.

What do you think?
I prefer

The government is often wrong
The government says x
Therefore, x deserves research and observation and my part before complying or endorsing

We watched all of it intently.  It's like getting an IV of real leadership, which we have longed for so much it hurts.  Cathartic! But then I start to fear the lemmings will march us all off the cliff again and swoon Hillary in for more of same.  It's good to see them taking off the gloves and picking the low hanging fruit this administration leaves so stupidly there.

Also I fear that Cruz and Rubio will duke it out so harshly it will weaken any strengths we can accumulate.

But true that ANYONE on that stage would be leagues better than O or H.

That's like saying the P-38 flies better than a brick.
