Title: odd things to hear
Post by: President-Elect Bob Noel on May 08, 2021, 12:04:01 PM
while waiting out the 15 minute observation time, I heard a nurse tell a patient something like "nothing worse than how you feel after getting shot with an epipen"

Can anyone think of a worse feeling than that?

anything at all?

Maybe being in anaphylaxis shock?

maybe?

Penicillin shot in the ass at boot camp. It's cold and it's jelly like. That hurt the next day. Then there was the dental school reject that yanked out 2 wisdom teeth a few weeks later.

Getting a root canal and the novacaine started wearing off. Getting cavities filled as a kid when they didn’t give kids novacaine back then.

I’ve had anaphylaxis and I guess they shot me with an epipen, I don’t remember. They did all kinds of stuff to me while they were loading me in the ambulance.  I don’t remember any pain at all, just feeling like I was blacking out.

I got a penicillin shot when I was a kid that hurt so bad I fainted. Of course I had a high fever and was probably dehydrated from not drinking (strep throat) but I swear it was the intense pain. That thing hurt like hell. I’d rather do childbirth without any drugs, which I’ve actually done twice and it didn’t hurt near as bad as that penicillin shot. They should put you under general anesthesia for those things.

Oh, I’ve had gallstones too. Bad, but still not as bad as that damn shot.

Rocephin, another anti-biotic that is shot in the ass. Hurts like hell, but the stuff works when you have a bad infeciton.

Of yeah, OCS, back then they used the air guns. Don't know if they still do, but you walk down the line, get hit in each arm like three times. Don't flinch!

They had the air guns in 1997.

I remember the air gun vaccinations when I was on Guam in the late 60s.  In fourth or fifth grade we had our yearly lecture about how not to pick up and play with explosives you find in the boonies, and then we all lined up for shots.  I still remember the psssst as each kid filed past the nurse.

Eh, these things aren't as sterile as one wound think (or we were lead to believe)
